Sourcing PVC guttering systems from China

PVC guttering systems from China carry 6% UK duty on the relevant heading 3925 lines, with no duty variation between them. Check the exact component classification and applicable construction-product documentation before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources PVC guttering systems.

6% duty on the relevant guttering lines

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 3 October 2026, heading 3925 covers builders' ware of plastics, not elsewhere specified or included. This guide concerns PVC guttering and permanent installation fittings. The table separates product examples sharing a tariff line; it does not represent distinct commodity codes.

The supplied tariff record gives 6% duty for goods from China under 3925 90 80 00 and 3925 90 10 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures, suspensions or attached import controls on those lines. Treat the gutter descriptions as classification candidates rather than confirmed rulings.

Confirm each component's commodity code, especially separately supplied downpipes and connectors, rather than applying a gutter code to the whole shipment. See the wider building-products guide for adjacent products.

Specify the gutter profile and complete joint system

Specify the profile drawing, cross-section, wall thickness, length, colour and surface finish. List corners, outlets, unions, stop ends, seals and brackets against the same drawing set. Agree bracket spacing, expansion allowance and installation instructions with the supplier. Ask for weathering, impact and joint-leakage test reports identifying the actual material formulation.

Check whether a designated standard covers the exact product and intended use. Official guidance says products outside full designated-standard coverage may be covered by a technical assessment document. Ask the supplier to identify its documentation route and supporting reports before accepting marking claims. Use testing and certification support to review the proposed evidence.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 20 project packs of PVC gutter lengths and matching fittings under 3925 90 80 00, invoiced at £18,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £19,500. Duty at 6% is £1,170. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £20,670, so it is £4,134. Import taxes total £5,304; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,170 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Profile: compare sampled lengths with the approved drawing and mating components; check straightness, wall consistency and cut ends.

Joints: assemble unions, corners, outlets and stop ends; check seal seating, insertion marks, expansion movement and leakage under the agreed test.

Brackets: check fixing holes, clip engagement and support fit with the actual gutter profile.

Condition: check cracks, distortion, scratches, colour consistency, component counts and batch identification. Use the quality inspection guide to plan shipment checks.

What goes wrong

A nominally matching profile can still have incompatible unions or brackets. Poorly seated seals leak, tight joints leave inadequate expansion movement, and distorted lengths resist assembly. Thin or inconsistent walls and unverified material changes can undermine the approved sample.

Approve an assembled system rather than isolated catalogue samples. Record the formulation and component drawings, retain comparison samples, and require agreement before substitutions. Protect long sections against bending and check that replacement seals and fittings match the supplied system.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on PVC guttering from China?

The supplied tariff record gives 6% on 3925 90 80 00 and 3925 90 10 00, with no trade remedies or suspensions on those lines. Confirm which code applies to each component.

Can I mix Chinese guttering with my existing fittings?

Check assembled samples against your existing system. Similar profile names do not establish matching seal grooves, clips or insertion depths.

What documentation should I ask the gutter factory for?

Ask for drawings, material identification, installation instructions and relevant test reports. Check designated-standard coverage and any proposed technical assessment route.

What should I inspect when PVC guttering arrives?

Check straightness, cracks, colour, component counts and bracket fit. Assemble joints with the supplied seals and check leakage against the agreed acceptance procedure.
