Sourcing pop-up gazebos from China

Pop-up gazebos classified as textile tents carry a flat 12% UK duty from China. The field-hospital suspension excludes ordinary gazebos. Consumer gazebos must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use; specify the folding frame, roof fabric and anchoring together. Cambridge China Bridge sources pop-up gazebos.

Pop-up gazebo duty and classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 December 2026, heading 6306 covers tents, including temporary canopies, alongside tarpaulins, awnings, sails and camping goods. Assess complete textile pop-up gazebos against the tent lines according to material and construction. The table includes separately supplied tarpaulins and awnings as accessory lines; these are not alternative codes for a complete gazebo.

The listed lines carry 12% duty for goods from China. The supplied record shows no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no attached import controls. Both tent lines have a 0.00 % autonomous suspension restricted to tents for setting up field hospitals, including temporary canopies. Ordinary market, garden and event gazebos do not meet that stated use.

Confirm the commodity code using fabric composition, coating, frame construction and the contents of the supplied set. Check separately supplied covers and accessories on their own description. See the wider heading guide for camping tunnel tents.

Specify the folding frame, roof and anchoring

Specify erected footprint, clear headroom, packed dimensions, frame material, tube sections, wall thickness and finish. Agree scissor-joint construction, leg adjustment, locking mechanisms, footplates and replaceable parts. Identify the intended ground surface and whether sidewalls will be fitted. Ask for evidence supporting wind limits and anchoring arrangements for that exact configuration.

Specify roof and sidewall fibre composition, fabric weight, coating, seam sealing, corner reinforcement, attachment straps and printing. Textile labels must show fibre content. Consumer gazebos supplied in Great Britain must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. Product safety compliance should be demonstrated before sale; arrange testing and certification around the actual supplied design.

Agree illustrated erection, anchoring, weather-response, folding and drying instructions. Confirm with HSE or the relevant authority what underground-service precautions are appropriate when driving stakes for marquees and tents. Ask for flame-performance evidence matching the roof and sidewall materials, and have the intended venue assess suitability before approving production.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 12 commercial pop-up gazebos with printed roofs and sidewalls, illustrative order under 6306 22 00 00, invoiced at £9,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,800. Duty at 12% is £1,176. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,976, so it is £2,195.20. Import taxes total £3,371.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,176 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Frame and locks: erect and fold the finished gazebo; check joint movement, leg adjustment, positive locking, sharp edges and pinch points against the approved sample.

Roof and sidewalls: check fabric, coating, stitching, seam sealing, corner reinforcement, zips and printed artwork; test rain resistance using the agreed procedure.

Anchoring and contents: match footplates, guy lines, stakes and ballast connections to the approved drawing; check the packing list and replacement parts.

Labels and arrival condition: check fibre-content labels, instructions and model identification; inspect for bent legs, cracked joints, damp fabric and torn bags. Arrange inspection before dispatch.

What goes wrong

A frame can open smoothly while its locks fail to engage fully. Loose scissor-joint fasteners, distorted legs and roof corners under excessive tension can cause problems after repeated folding. Test the assembled gazebo with its sidewalls fitted and inspect attachment points after the agreed opening and closing checks.

A rain-resistant fabric sample does not establish the performance of stitched seams or a roof that collects water. Anchoring supplied for grass may be unsuitable for hardstanding. Freeze the approved frame, roof pattern, coating and anchoring components in the order, and require approval before substitutions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on pop-up gazebos from China?

The supplied tariff record gives 12% on textile tent lines 6306 22 00 00 and 6306 29 00 00. The field-hospital suspension does not cover ordinary pop-up gazebos.

Can I use the same gazebo on grass and paving?

Ask the supplier for anchoring arrangements suited to each surface and the intended sidewall configuration. Check the supplied stakes, ballast connections and instructions against those arrangements.

What should I test on a pop-up gazebo sample?

Check opening and folding, leg locks, scissor joints, roof tension, sidewall fit and rain resistance. Use the complete assembly and agree acceptance criteria before production.

How do I check a flame-resistant gazebo claim?

Ask for a report matching the supplied roof and sidewall fabric, coating and treatment. Have the intended venue assess its suitability; do not approve the claim from a generic fabric certificate.
