Sourcing perforated acoustic plywood from China
Perforated acoustic plywood panels within heading 4412 carry standard UK duty of 6% to 10% from China, with a conditional 0% eucalyptus suspension. The GB business first placing plywood on the market must exercise timber due diligence. Cambridge China Bridge sources perforated acoustic plywood panels.

Duty follows the plywood construction
Heading 4412 covers plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood. This guide concerns perforated acoustic plywood panels. The selected plywood lines cover individual wood plies not exceeding 6 mm. Record the actual outer veneer and core species, coatings and any attached backing before classification. See the wider plywood guide for other products within the heading.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, the selected birch, poplar, oak or walnut, eucalyptus and coniferous lines carry standard duty of 6% from China; the selected tropical line carries 10%. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded on these lines. The eucalyptus line has a conditional 0% suspension excluding mixtures, preparations or products made up of different components containing the specified products. Confirm eligibility for the finished acoustic panel.
The selected tropical and coniferous lines have CITES import controls. Listed timber needs the applicable permits; confirm the requirements for your China shipment with your customs broker. Confirm the commodity code against the finished panel rather than its acoustic sales description. Import VAT is normally 20%; see UK import duty and VAT.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |

Specify the perforations and installed assembly
Specify panel dimensions, thickness tolerance, veneer and core species, hole diameter, spacing, pattern, open area, unperforated borders and fixing positions. Agree acceptable tear-out around holes, edge finish, veneer colour and grain direction. Define the backing fabric, its attachment and any absorbent material supplied with the panel.
Ask for acoustic test reports identifying the perforated panel, backing, absorbent material, mounting method and cavity used in the test. Match that assembly to the intended installation. Obtain reaction-to-fire evidence for the finished panel and its finish, plus formaldehyde and bond test results. For construction use, obtain the performance declaration. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market.
Businesses trading in timber products must take steps to ensure legal sourcing. Confirm the applicable timber due-diligence requirements and restrictions on illegally harvested timber with the relevant authority before first placing plywood on the GB market. Obtain species, harvest country and legality evidence for every veneer layer before ordering. A factory address in China does not identify the timber's harvest origin.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 6 cubic metres of perforated poplar-faced acoustic plywood panels under 4412 33 20 10, invoiced at £3,500 free on board, with £1,530 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,030. Duty at 6% is £301.80. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,331.80, so it is £1,066.36. Import taxes total £1,368.16; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £301.80 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Perforations: compare hole diameter, spacing, open area and border positions with the drawing; check blocked holes, splintering and torn veneers.
Panel and core: measure thickness, squareness and flatness; cut samples to check core voids, overlaps and bond quality, especially around perforations.
Backing and finish: check fabric adhesion, unobstructed holes, coating consistency, colour matching and protected edges against the approved sample.
Arrival and records: check damp packs, mould, warping and broken corners; match batch identification and test reports to the delivered construction. Arrange quality inspection around these checks.

What goes wrong
A panel can match the sample colour while differing in hole pattern, core construction or backing. Veneer tear-out spoils the visible face, core gaps weaken narrow areas between holes, and excess adhesive can obstruct perforations. Damp packing can leave panels warped before installation.
An acoustic report for a different cavity or backing does not establish the performance of your proposed assembly. A fire report for an unfinished board leaves the supplied coating or backing unaddressed. Resolve these differences before accepting the batch, and agree how installation details and approved materials will be recorded.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on perforated acoustic plywood panels from China?
The selected lines carry standard duty of 6% to 10%, with a conditional 0% eucalyptus suspension. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded on them. Confirm the finished panel's code and suspension eligibility.
Do acoustic plywood panels need timber due diligence?
Businesses trading in timber products must take steps to ensure legal sourcing. Confirm the applicable timber due-diligence requirements with the relevant authority before first placing plywood on the GB market. Obtain species, harvest origin and supporting evidence for the face and core veneers.
Does a plywood acoustic test report cover any installation?
Match the report's perforations, backing, absorbent material, cavity and mounting method to your installation. Ask for an assessment of differences before relying on the reported performance.
What should I check before buying panels for a wall or ceiling?
Agree the hole pattern, fixing details, backing and finish. Obtain acoustic, reaction-to-fire, formaldehyde and bond evidence matching the supplied panel, and the performance declaration for construction use.
