Olive harvester codes and zero duty

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 8433 covers harvesting machinery and related agricultural equipment. The other harvesting machinery line, 8433 59 85 00, is the starting point for the complete olive harvesters shown here; parts are listed under 8433 90 00 00. The table separates configurations sharing a tariff line, rather than separate tariff subdivisions. Confirm classification against the actual machine.

These lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measures or suspensions recorded. The complete-machine line has import and export waste-control flags; the parts line has none. Waste shipment controls apply only to waste. For a shipment subject to notification controls, the exporter must apply to the competent authority in the dispatch country for consent. Ask your customs broker to confirm the requirements for any waste shipment from China.

Confirm the commodity code using the harvesting function, configuration and descriptions of separately imported parts. For wider coverage of this heading, including equipment used after harvesting, see the fruit grading machines guide.

Specify the shaker, tree grip and collection system

For new olive harvesters, agree the harvesting method, tree shape, trunk diameter range and orchard access conditions. For a trunk shaker, specify clamp opening, pad material, clamping adjustment and vibration control. Describe any catching umbrella, collection conveyor and unloading arrangement. Match tractor-mounted or trailed equipment to the buyer's hitch, hydraulic supply and power connection. Agree replacement clamp pads, seals and collection components by model.

Request CE or UKCA marking details, the delivered configuration's declaration of conformity, technical-file arrangements and English instructions. Review the documents through testing and certification support. Agree an orchard trial using representative trees and olives, recording fruit left on the tree, fruit lost outside the collector and damage to bark or branches.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: A tractor-mounted olive harvesting machine, illustrative order under 8433 59 85 00, invoiced at £28,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £32,000, so it is £6,400. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Tree grip and crop handling: check clamp alignment, pad condition and adjustment; trial the agreed vibration settings and inspect trees and harvested olives for damage.

Drive and hydraulics: check tractor connections, hose routing, leaks and operation under load; inspect moving-part guards and test stopping controls.

Collection and transport: inspect the catching umbrella, conveyor and unloading mechanism; on arrival, check frame distortion, damaged hoses, loose fixings and transport locks.

Documents and spares: match the nameplate, declaration and English manual to the delivered model; reconcile pads, seals and other agreed spares with the packing list. Arrange quality inspection before dispatch and repeat functional checks after assembly.

What goes wrong

An unloaded demonstration does not establish harvesting performance. A clamp that slips can mark bark, while unsuitable vibration settings can leave fruit on the tree or damage branches. A collector that does not suit the tree canopy loses olives outside its catching area. Agree acceptance conditions for the buyer's orchard rather than relying on a factory demonstration using different trees.

Hydraulic connections may fit while the tractor supply cannot operate the shaker and collector together as intended. Transport can displace guards or damage folding collection components. Record the supplied configuration, inspect it after unloading and agree access to model-specific wear parts before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on olive harvesting machines from China?

The supplied tariff facts show 0% duty for other harvesting machinery under 8433 59 85 00 and parts under 8433 90 00 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Confirm the machine's classification.

Do olive harvesters need CE or UKCA marking?

New machinery placed on the Great Britain market needs CE or UKCA marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Check that the documents identify the delivered configuration.

How should I test an olive harvesting machine before shipping?

Arrange an orchard trial with representative trees and olives. Check clamp grip, bark damage, fruit removal, collection losses and unloading, then verify tractor compatibility and inspect the supplied machine.

Which spare parts should I order with an olive harvester?

Agree a model-specific list covering clamp pads, hydraulic seals and collection-system wear parts. Request drawings and part identifiers so replacements match the delivered configuration.
