Sourcing maize harvesting headers from China

Maize harvesting headers and harvesting machinery parts have candidate UK tariff lines carrying 0% duty from China, with no trade remedies recorded. Confirm the classification of the supplied assembly. Machinery must be safe before sale or first use in Great Britain. Cambridge China Bridge sources maize harvesting headers.

Zero duty, but confirm the header classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 8433 covers harvesting and threshing machinery and parts. The supplied facts do not name maize headers separately. Other harvesting machinery and parts are candidate lines; the forage harvester rows describe possible host machines rather than separate headers. For vineyard harvesting equipment, see sourcing grape harvesting machines.

All selected lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. No anti-dumping or countervailing duties or suspensions are recorded. The machinery lines carry an import waste control; the parts line does not. For notified waste imported into England, shipment can start only after consent from the Environment Agency and other authorities involved. Ask your customs broker to confirm how the tariff control applies to your consignment from China.

Provide drawings, operating function, host-machine details and the supplied component list when confirming the commodity code. Do not assume every detachable header is a part. See the forage harvester guide for the wider machinery family.

Specify the crop system and host-machine interface

State whether the header picks maize cobs for a combine or cuts whole plants for a forage harvester. Specify row-dependent or row-independent operation, working width, crop condition and the intended host model. Agree mounting geometry, feeder opening, drive direction, shaft connection, hydraulic connections and control functions against drawings.

Machinery must be safe before it is placed on the Great Britain market or first put into service. Ask for the safety assessment, declaration, operating instructions and guarding details for the exact supplied configuration. Arrange a supervised compatibility trial that checks crop feeding, drive loading, folding and safe access for clearing blockages.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: One complete maize harvesting header, illustrative only, subject to classification under 8433 59 85 00, invoiced at £8,000 free on board, with £1,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £9,200. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £9,200, so it is £1,840. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Mounting: compare hooks, pins, locking points and feeder alignment with the approved drawings and intended host machine.

Crop handling: inspect gathering chains, stalk rollers or cutting discs as fitted; check adjustment, blade condition and feeding during an agreed crop trial.

Drive and guards: check shaft engagement, rotation, gearbox leaks, hose routing, protective covers and folding locks without exposing anyone to moving components.

Arrival and spares: inspect transport supports, bent dividers, corrosion and loose fasteners; reconcile serial identification, instructions and the agreed spare-parts list.

What goes wrong

A header can mount correctly yet feed poorly because the opening, drive ratio or crop-handling system does not suit the host. Incorrect shaft engagement, strained hydraulic hoses and folding interference can also remain hidden until installation. Record a trial on the intended machine before accepting compatibility.

Thin dividers can bend in transit, gathering components can wear unevenly and replacement blades or chains can prove difficult to match. Agree component identification, packing supports and acceptance checks before production, then compare the delivered assembly with the approved sample.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on maize headers from China?

The candidate machinery and parts lines carry 0% duty, with no trade remedies or suspensions recorded in the supplied tariff facts. Confirm the header's classification before declaring it.

Is a maize header classified as machinery or a part?

The supplied tariff facts do not identify headers separately. Ask your customs broker to assess the complete assembly, its function and the components supplied.

Will a Chinese maize header fit my existing harvester?

Require drawings and a trial on the intended host model. Check mounting locks, feeder alignment, drive direction, shaft engagement, hydraulics and folding clearance.

What should I inspect when a maize header arrives?

Check transport damage, dividers, cutting or gathering components, mounting locks, guards, gearbox leaks and hose routing. Match identification and spares to the agreed specification.
