Sourcing OLED display modules from China

OLED display modules from China carry 0% UK duty across both relevant tariff lines. For Great Britain, distinguish business-to-business components from replacement spare parts when checking hazardous-substance rules. Specify the panel source, circuitry and touch compatibility before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources OLED display modules.

OLED module duty and classification

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 17 October 2026, heading 8524 covers flat panel display modules, whether or not incorporating touch-sensitive screens. OLED modules without drivers or control circuits fall under 8524 12 00 00; other OLED modules fall under 8524 92 00 00. The table separates touch and non-touch configurations within these same codes.

Both OLED lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached controls for either OLED line. Import VAT is separate from duty; see UK import duty and VAT.

Ask for a datasheet identifying the display technology and whether drivers or control circuits are incorporated, then confirm the commodity code. For the wider repair-parts category, see phone repair parts.

Specify the panel, circuitry and intended use

Name the panel manufacturer and part reference, rigid or flexible construction, active display area, resolution, connector layout and incorporated circuitry. Specify whether touch sensing is included and identify the host device or controller used for acceptance testing. Record whether the module is new, refurbished or recovered, including which parts have been replaced. Approve a fitted, working sample rather than accepting a supplier's grade name.

For Great Britain, official hazardous-substance guidance distinguishes component parts sold business to business from spare parts. Business-to-business components are outside the regulations' scope, but the final assembly placed on the market must comply. Electrical and electronic equipment, including cables and spare parts, is in scope unless specifically excluded. Establish which description fits your supply and request material evidence for the actual panel, flex cable and solder.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 2,000 unbranded OLED display modules without drivers or control circuits under 8524 12 00 00, invoiced at £40,000 free on board, with £1,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £41,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £41,000, so it is £8,200. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Image: compare brightness, colour consistency, dark patches and retained images against the approved sample using the intended host and agreed test patterns.

Touch and fit: check edge response, unintended touches, connector alignment, frame thickness and clearance after fitting, where applicable.

Condition and packing: inspect glass, flex cables and connectors for damage; check protective separators and anti-static packaging. Match panel references and batch identification to the order.

Markings and evidence: inspect components and packaging for unauthorised brand logos. Match material declarations and test reports to the supplied construction. Use quality inspection to define acceptance checks before dispatch.

What goes wrong

A module can light up on a supplier's fixture yet fail after installation. Watch for colour shifts, uneven brightness, edge touch failures, torn flex cables and frames that prevent proper seating. Refurbished or recovered panels can also differ visibly from an approved new sample. Test in the intended host and agree how installation failures will be recorded and resolved.

Repeat orders can change when the supplier substitutes the panel, touch layer or circuitry. Require written approval before substitutions. Unauthorised registered brand markings create a separate trade mark risk even when the screen works; specify plain or authorised markings and check the component as well as its packaging.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on OLED modules from China?

Both relevant OLED lines, 8524 12 00 00 and 8524 92 00 00, carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff record. Neither lists a trade remedy, suspension or attached control. Import VAT is separate.

Which commodity code covers an OLED module with a driver?

The relevant OLED line is 8524 92 00 00. Modules without drivers or control circuits use 8524 12 00 00. Confirm the supplied construction against its datasheet before declaring the code.

Does a business-to-business OLED component need hazardous-substance compliance?

GB guidance puts business-to-business component parts outside scope, but requires the final assembly placed on the market to comply. Spare parts are generally in scope unless specifically excluded.

How do I check a replacement OLED screen before ordering?

Fit the sample to the intended device. Check colour, brightness, edge touch response, frame fit and connector alignment. Record the panel source and whether the assembly is new, refurbished or recovered.
