Sourcing motor stator end insulators from China

Moulded plastic motor stator end insulators from China carry 0% UK duty under 8547 20 00 00. Business-to-business components are outside RoHS scope in Great Britain; check the finished product's obligations separately. Specify resin grade and winding fit. Cambridge China Bridge sources moulded motor stator end insulators.

0% duty on plastic stator end insulators

Heading 8547 covers insulating fittings for electrical machines, appliances or equipment, wholly of insulating material apart from minor metal components incorporated during moulding solely for assembly. This guide covers moulded plastic insulators fitted at stator ends to separate windings from the core. The table shows product variants under the same plastics line, rather than separate tariff categories.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, code 8547 20 00 00 carries 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control for this line. Import VAT is separate from customs duty.

Send your material specification, drawing, details of any inserts and intended function to your customs broker to confirm the commodity code. For the wider heading, see insulating motor slot wedges. See import duty and VAT for the calculation method.

Specify the resin, core fit and winding path

Supply a drawing showing the mating stator core, tooth and slot geometry, seating faces, locating features, winding guides and lead-routing channels. Specify wall thicknesses, tolerances and edge profiles where enamelled winding wire touches the part. Identify matching end pieces and their orientation. Approve samples on the actual core using your winding process.

Lock the resin grade, reinforcement, colour and permitted use of reprocessed material in the order. Specify operating temperature, dielectric strength, flammability and tracking performance for the intended motor. Ask for supporting reports that match the supplied material and relevant thickness, and assess compatibility with your impregnation varnish and curing process.

For supply into Great Britain, official guidance excludes component parts sold business-to-business from RoHS scope. Confirm the finished electrical product's hazardous-substance requirements with the relevant product-safety authority. Obtain material declarations and supporting reports for the insulators so the motor assembler can assess compliance.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative production batch of moulded plastic motor stator end insulators under 8547 20 00 00, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £700 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £15,700. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £15,700, so it is £3,140. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Core fit: measure seating faces and locating features against the drawing, then trial-fit parts to the actual stator core; check rocking, gaps and interference.

Wire contact: inspect winding guides, slot entries and lead channels for flash, sharp edges, cracks and short moulding; trial-wind samples and examine the wire insulation.

Material: match resin grade and batch records to the order, and check that claimed thermal, flammability and electrical performance has supporting evidence.

Batch and arrival: compare samples from each mould cavity with the approved part, check warping and broken locating features, and confirm that packing separates matching variants. Use the quality inspection guide to organise checks.

What goes wrong

A part can fit an unwound core but leave inadequate space for winding or lead routing. Flash and sharp moulded edges can damage wire enamel during winding. Warped seating faces can leave the insulator raised or allow movement, while brittle locating features can break during assembly.

Resin substitution can change thermal and electrical performance despite an unchanged appearance. A report for another grade or thickness does not establish the ordered part's performance. Retain approved samples, record drawing revisions and compare bulk parts with them before shipment and on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on motor stator end insulators from China?

The supplied record gives 0% duty under 8547 20 00 00 for plastic insulating fittings, with no listed trade remedy, suspension or attached import control. Confirm that your moulded end insulators qualify.

What drawing does a Chinese factory need for stator end insulators?

Provide core geometry, seating and locating features, winding guides, lead channels, wall thicknesses and tolerances. Identify matching parts and orientation, then approve samples with the actual core and winding process.

Do business-to-business stator end insulators fall within RoHS scope?

Official Great Britain guidance excludes component parts sold business-to-business from RoHS scope. Confirm the finished product's requirements separately and obtain material evidence for the assembler.

How do I check that end insulators will not damage winding wire?

Inspect wire-contact edges for flash, sharpness and cracks. Trial-wind approved and bulk samples on the actual core, then examine the wire insulation and check that guides and lead channels remain correctly positioned.
