Sourcing moisture-resistant MDF from China
Moisture-resistant MDF from China carries a flat 6% UK duty, with no trade remedies recorded. Importers placing it on the Great Britain market must carry out timber due diligence; construction panels need a declaration of performance and UKCA or CE marking. Check swelling results rather than green colour. Cambridge China Bridge sources moisture-resistant MDF.

A flat 6% across the relevant MDF lines
Heading 4411 covers fibreboard of wood or other ligneous materials, whether or not bonded with resins or other organic substances. Moisture-resistant MDF falls within its MDF lines; choose the line by thickness, density and whether the board is raw, mechanically worked or surface covered.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, all relevant MDF lines carried 6% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls. Timber due diligence still applies when placing fibreboard on the Great Britain market.
Confirm the commodity code against the actual board specification before ordering. The descriptions below apply only where all classification conditions match. See MDF and fibreboard sourcing for the wider heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moisture-resistant MDF, raw, thickness up to 5 mm | 4411 12 10 00 | 6% | None |
| Moisture-resistant MDF, raw, thickness over 5 mm up to 9 mm | 4411 13 10 00 | 6% | None |
| Moisture-resistant MDF, raw, thickness over 9 mm | 4411 14 10 00 | 6% | None |
| Moisture-resistant MDF, worked or faced, up to 5 mm, density up to 0.8 g/cm³ | 4411 12 94 00 | 6% | None |
| Moisture-resistant MDF, worked or faced, over 5 to 9 mm, density up to 0.8 g/cm³ | 4411 13 94 00 | 6% | None |
| Moisture-resistant MDF, worked or faced, over 9 mm, density over 0.5 to 0.8 g/cm³ | 4411 14 95 00 | 6% | None |
Specify moisture resistance with batch evidence
State the intended application, exposure to moisture, sheet dimensions, thickness tolerance, density, surface finish and machining needs. Agree the fibreboard type and physical performance against BS EN 622-5, including internal bond, bending strength and thickness swelling. Put the agreed acceptance criteria into the purchase specification and request reports traceable to the production batch.
For panels used in construction, ask the relevant authority to confirm whether EN 13986 applies and which declaration of performance and UKCA or CE marking requirements apply, including any required formaldehyde class and reaction-to-fire information. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market. Agree testing and certification before production.
Confirm with the relevant authority whether the supplied fibreboard falls within the UK Timber Regulations and what timber-legality due diligence applies to the importer first placing it on the Great Britain market. Obtain the fibre species, countries of harvest and supporting legality documents from the mill before shipment.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: one container of 18 mm raw moisture-resistant MDF under 4411 14 10 00, invoiced at £14,000 free on board, with £2,600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £16,600. Duty at 6% is £996. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £17,596, so it is £3,519.20. Import taxes total £4,515.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £996 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Moisture performance: check batch-linked thickness swelling and internal bond results against the agreed grade. Green colour alone does not establish moisture resistance.
Dimensions and machining: measure thickness across sample sheets, check squareness and flatness, and machine sample edges to check for crumbling, chipped faces and a soft core.
Emissions and documents: match the formaldehyde report to the supplied board and declared class. For construction panels, check the performance declaration and conformity marking against the product identification.
Arrival condition: check moisture content, swollen edges, surface blisters, damaged wrapping and bowed stacks. Record affected bundles at inspection, then store sheets flat and covered.

What goes wrong
A supplier may offer ordinary MDF dyed green as a moisture-resistant grade. A colour match cannot reveal poor swelling performance or weak internal bonding. Reports for a different board or an earlier batch also leave the shipment unverified. Agree batch identification and check that the tested product matches the order.
Uneven thickness causes machining problems, soft cores crumble around fixings, and wet sheets can swell or warp during transport. Inspect representative sheets from different bundles, photograph damage on arrival and retain samples while agreeing the remedy with the supplier.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on moisture-resistant MDF from China?
The relevant MDF lines carry 6% duty in the supplied tariff record, read on 1 October 2026. No anti-dumping or countervailing duties or suspensions are listed.
Does green MDF prove that it is moisture-resistant?
No. Ordinary board can be dyed green. Ask for thickness swelling and internal bond results for the agreed grade, traceable to the supplied production batch.
Does moisture-resistant MDF need CE or UKCA marking?
For panels used in construction, confirm with the relevant authority whether EN 13986 applies and which declaration of performance and UKCA or CE marking requirements apply. Check that the documents identify the supplied board and its declared performance.
Do I need timber due diligence for moisture-resistant MDF?
Confirm with the relevant authority whether the supplied fibreboard falls within the UK Timber Regulations and what timber-legality assessment applies to the importer first placing it on the Great Britain market. Obtain species, harvest origin and supporting evidence to help assess the timber source.
