Sourcing microwave sintering furnaces from China

Microwave sintering furnaces from China carry 0% UK duty under the dielectric furnace line, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty in the tariff snapshot. For Great Britain, check UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity, electromagnetic compatibility evidence and an English manual. Cambridge China Bridge sources microwave sintering furnaces.

UK duty on microwave sintering furnaces

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 8514 covers industrial and laboratory electric furnaces, including dielectric furnaces, other dielectric heat-treatment equipment and parts. For a complete microwave sintering furnace, start the classification check with dielectric furnaces and ovens under 8514 20 80 00.

Every supplied heading line carries 0% duty for goods from China. The snapshot records no anti-dumping or countervailing measures, suspensions or attached import controls. Import VAT is normally 20%. The table includes separately supplied equipment and parts; these rows are classification references, rather than alternative codes automatically available for a complete microwave furnace.

Confirm the heating method, furnace construction and items supplied with your customs broker using the commodity code guide. For resistance heating and wider ceramic furnace selection, see ceramic sintering furnaces.

Specify the ceramic load and microwave system

Specify the ceramic composition, green-body dimensions, loading arrangement, working temperature, heating and cooling programme, atmosphere and required finished density or shrinkage. Agree usable chamber space, microwave generator and power control, any auxiliary resistance heating, susceptor material, insulation, temperature measurement and data export. Ask the factory to demonstrate the proposed furnace with your material and loading arrangement.

For supply in Great Britain, check UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity, electromagnetic compatibility evidence and an English manual. Ask the relevant authority whether powered doors or loading systems bring machinery safety requirements into the assessment. Electromagnetic compatibility rules cover electrical and electronic equipment liable to generate electromagnetic disturbance, subject to exceptions. Ask for evidence covering the complete supplied configuration through testing and certification.

Agree shielding, door interlocks, emergency stopping, cooling failure protection and safe shutdown before ordering. Employers must control significant radiation risks once identified. Request microwave leakage test records and operating restrictions to support the site's assessment.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Two laboratory microwave sintering furnaces; order, FOB and freight values are illustrative under 8514 20 80 00, invoiced at £64,000 free on board, with £5,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £69,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £69,500, so it is £13,900. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Loaded trial: witness the agreed programme with representative ceramic pieces. Compare density, shrinkage, cracking and results across the load against the purchase specification.

Measurement and control: check temperature sensor position, calibration records, programme logs and microwave power control. Confirm that the displayed temperature represents the agreed measurement location.

Protection: have competent personnel demonstrate door interlocks, emergency stopping and cooling failure shutdown using the manufacturer's procedure. Review leakage test records for the actual configuration.

Arrival: inspect door alignment, shielding joints, insulation, susceptors and cooling connections for transit damage. Match the serial number, declaration, wiring diagrams and English manual to the delivered furnace. Arrange the agreed site checks through the inspection guide.

What goes wrong

An empty-chamber demonstration can miss uneven sintering in the production load. A changed ceramic formulation, susceptor arrangement or loading pattern can alter the heating response. Temperature readings can look satisfactory while pieces crack, distort or reach different densities. Make the loaded trial and acceptance criteria part of the purchase specification.

Transit damage can disturb door alignment, shielding joints or brittle insulation. Missing cooling information, unsuitable site power and undocumented auxiliary heating complicate commissioning. Agree arrival checks, installation responsibilities and replacement parts before shipment, and repeat the agreed protection checks after installation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on microwave sintering furnaces from China?

The supplied tariff snapshot shows 0% duty for dielectric furnaces under 8514 20 80 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the complete furnace's classification before shipment.

Does auxiliary resistance heating change the commodity code?

Ask your customs broker to review the combined heating system and complete specification. Do not select a resistance-heated furnace code simply because the microwave furnace also contains heating elements.

What documents should accompany a microwave sintering furnace?

For Great Britain, check the declaration of conformity, UKCA or CE marking, electromagnetic compatibility evidence and English manual. Also request wiring diagrams, cooling instructions and leakage test records.

How should I test a microwave sintering furnace before buying?

Run your ceramic material in the agreed loading arrangement. Check the temperature record, density, shrinkage and cracking, then have competent personnel demonstrate the protection functions.
