Sourcing mesh-belt furnaces from China

Electric mesh-belt heat-treatment furnaces from China carry 0% UK duty across the relevant tariff lines. Powered conveyors bring machinery safety requirements: check UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions for the complete furnace. Cambridge China Bridge sources electric mesh-belt heat-treatment furnaces.

UK duty on electric mesh-belt furnaces

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 8514 covers industrial and laboratory electric furnaces and ovens, specified induction or dielectric heat-treatment equipment, and parts. A resistance-heated mesh-belt furnace is a candidate for 8514 19 80 00. The table also identifies alternative induction equipment and parts; these are not interchangeable descriptions of the same furnace.

All listed lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff snapshot records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls. Import VAT is normally 20%; zero customs duty does not remove machinery conformity requirements.

Confirm the heating method, whether the shipment is a complete furnace or separate equipment, and the function of any parts with your customs broker. Use the commodity code guide and the wider electric furnace guide.

Specify the belt, load and heating cycle

Specify the workpiece material, dimensions, loading pattern and required heat-treatment result. Agree usable belt width, mesh opening, belt material, permitted loading, speed adjustment and heated length. Define working temperature, temperature uniformity under load, atmosphere, cooling arrangement and recording of the heating cycle.

Agree the site supply, installed power, extraction connections, maintenance access and replacement belt arrangement. For a complete furnace with a powered conveyor, confirm with the relevant authority or your customs broker whether the machinery safety rules apply. Check UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity, electromagnetic compatibility evidence and an English manual, as described in the published electric furnace guide.

The responsible person must ensure the technical file is compiled and available on request. Ask who holds it, which furnace configuration it covers, and how the heating equipment, conveyor and controls have been assessed together.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of two compact electric mesh-belt heat-treatment furnaces under 8514 19 80 00, invoiced at £64,000 free on board, with £5,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £69,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £69,500, so it is £13,900. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Loaded trial: use representative workpieces and the agreed loading pattern. Record temperature uniformity, belt speed, heating cycle and the resulting treatment against the purchase specification.

Belt and drive: check tracking, tension adjustment, joints, mesh condition and clearance through the furnace. Run the conveyor through its agreed speed range and check for snagging or uneven movement.

Safety and documents: check guards, emergency stops, over-temperature protection and agreed interlocks. Match the rating plate and declaration to the delivered model, and check the English manual and wiring diagrams.

Arrival condition: inspect refractory, elements, belt alignment and electrical cabinets for transit damage. Compare supplied spares with the packing list before commissioning; use the inspection guide.

What goes wrong

An empty-furnace demonstration can hide uneven treatment under load. A belt that tracks correctly when cold may move poorly when hot, and a mesh chosen without checking the workpiece can allow parts to catch or fall through. Require a witnessed trial using your actual loading pattern.

Unclear scope leaves buyers with mismatched conveyor controls, missing cooling or extraction connections, and documents that describe another model. Agree the complete supply boundary, site connections, acceptance records and critical spares before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on electric mesh-belt furnaces from China?

The supplied tariff snapshot shows 0% for other resistance-heated furnaces under 8514 19 80 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the code for the actual heating method.

Do electric mesh-belt furnaces need CE or UKCA marking?

For a complete furnace with a powered conveyor, confirm the applicable machinery safety rules with the relevant authority or your customs broker. For Great Britain, check UKCA or CE marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions.

What should a mesh-belt furnace acceptance test include?

Run representative workpieces at the agreed loading and belt speed. Record temperature uniformity, the heating cycle and treatment results, and check belt tracking and safety interlocks.

Which spare parts should I request with the furnace?

Agree replacement belt material and joints, drive parts, heating elements, thermocouples and refractory repair materials. Match each spare to the delivered furnace and document how it is replaced.
