Sourcing insecticidal ant baits from China
The selected ant-bait lines carry 6% UK duty; a narrow 0% suspension is not a general relief for finished baits. Confirm Great Britain product authorisation or a valid transitional approval before supply. Cambridge China Bridge sources insecticidal ant baits.

Ant-bait duty and conditional relief
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 3808 covers prepared insecticides and related products, including retail preparations and articles. The selected insecticide lines carry 6% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. These are classification alternatives by chemistry, rather than a list of formulations approved for sale. Under 3808 91 90 90, the 0.00 % suspension covers only the specified indoxacarb material on silicon dioxide and excludes mixtures and preparations.
The tariff attaches waste import controls: if a China shipment is waste subject to notification, the authorities of dispatch, destination and transit must consent before shipment. It also attaches an ozone-related free-circulation restriction to 3808 91 90 90 and fluorinated greenhouse gas import controls to 3808 91 10 90. Importing ozone-depleting substances into Great Britain requires a licence. Ask your customs broker to confirm the applicable declarations and gas-control requirements for the actual formulation.
The selected lines also carry export controls concerning dangerous chemicals and waste; confirm their application with your broker before any return shipment. Give the broker the complete formulation, active substance, intended use and packing to confirm your commodity code. Do not claim a suspension merely because a finished bait contains a named active substance. For wider heading coverage, see insecticidal fly baits.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |

| Other insecticidal ant-bait preparations | 3808 91 90 90 | 6% | None |
| Carbamate-based insecticidal bait preparations | 3808 91 30 00 | 6% | None |
| Organophosphorus-based insecticidal bait preparations | 3808 91 40 00 | 6% | None |
| Pyrethroid-based insecticidal bait preparations | 3808 91 10 90 | 6% | None |
Specify the ant species, bait and dispenser
Specify the target ant species, gel, liquid or granular bait, active substance and concentration, bait base, fill quantity and storage conditions. For stations, agree entrance geometry, seal strength and resistance to leakage when tilted. For gel dispensers, agree nozzle fit, cap retention and dispensing consistency. Request evidence of bait acceptance and performance against the target species using the proposed formulation.
Confirm with HSE whether the exact product needs Great Britain biocides authorisation or a valid transitional approval. Where the Control of Pesticides Regulations route applies, advertising, selling, supplying, storing or using an unapproved product is an offence. When the active substance is approved under the applicable biocides regime, the product then requires authorisation. Match the proposed formulation and intended use to the applicable approval documents.
Check active-substance eligibility and the GB Article 95 supplier listing where required. Review chemical labels and safety data sheets where the relevant legislation requires them. Agree the label artwork before production and check the intended user category and application instructions against the product documents. Arrange testing and certification checks before approving the production specification.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 600 retail packs of ant-bait gel under 3808 91 90 90, invoiced at £4,000 free on board, with £1,320 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,320. Duty at 6% is £319.20. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,639.20, so it is £1,127.84. Import taxes total £1,447.04; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £319.20 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Formulation: check batch identity and active-content assay against the agreed specification; inspect gel for separation, crystallisation and drying.
Performance: check dispensing and bait accessibility, and review target-species acceptance and efficacy evidence for the supplied formulation.
Packaging: check station seals, dispenser caps, leakage, fill quantity and damage after the agreed transport test.
Documents: compare delivered labels, batch identification, expiry information and instructions with the product documents; retain samples and inspection records. See quality inspection.

What goes wrong
A supplier offers evidence for the active substance or a different bait instead of the exact product. The supplied formulation, intended user or use conditions do not match the applicable approval. An approved ingredient alone does not establish that the finished bait can be supplied in Great Britain. Resolve the product approval route before ordering.
Physical failures include dried gel, liquid separating from the bait, leaking stations and blocked dispenser nozzles. Bait may remain accessible yet be poorly accepted by the target ants. Keep an agreed sample, assess stored samples and investigate changes to the bait base alongside active-content results.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on ant baits from China?
The selected insecticide lines carry 6% duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. The narrow suspension under 3808 91 90 90 excludes mixtures and preparations.
Can I sell ant bait that is approved in China?
Chinese approval alone does not establish the Great Britain supply route. Confirm the exact product's applicable biocides authorisation or valid transitional approval with HSE before ordering.
Does an approved active ingredient cover my ant-bait gel?
No. Check the finished product's applicable authorisation or transitional approval, formulation and intended use, as well as active-substance eligibility and the supplier listing where required.
What should I test before shipping ant baits?
Check active content, storage stability, target-ant bait acceptance, dispensing, station leakage and fill quantity. Compare the labels and supplied formulation with the agreed product documents.
