Sourcing liquid level transmitters from China
Industrial liquid level transmitters and relevant parts from China carry 0% UK duty across the selected lines. For electronic apparatus within scope, the importer must check the manufacturer's conformity assessment and provide importer identification. Cambridge China Bridge sources industrial liquid level transmitters.

Duty on liquid level transmitters
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 17 October 2026, the selected lines of heading 9026 carried 0% duty on goods from China, with no recorded anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no listed suspensions. The heading covers instruments measuring or checking liquid flow or level, pressure and other liquid or gas variables, plus parts and accessories.
Electronic liquid level instruments have a dedicated line separate from electronic flow meters. For hydrostatic probes, confirm whether classification follows liquid level measurement or pressure measurement. The electronic pressure line has mercury import and export controls attached. Unless an exemption applies, measuring devices containing mercury cannot be imported from China into Great Britain or sold there. Specify mercury-free instruments.
Confirm the commodity code using the measuring principle, measured variable and whether the shipment contains complete instruments or parts. See the flow meters and pressure gauges guide for the wider heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronic liquid level instruments | 9026 10 29 00 | 0% | None |
| Other liquid level instruments | 9026 10 89 00 | 0% | None |
| Electronic pressure instruments, where applicable to hydrostatic probes | 9026 20 20 00 | 0% | None |
| Parts and accessories for level instruments | 9026 90 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the liquid, tank and measuring principle
State whether you need a hydrostatic, radar, ultrasonic or capacitive transmitter. Give the liquid composition, density variation, operating temperature, tank pressure, measuring range and installation position. Describe foam, vapour, turbulence, internal obstructions and any agitator. Agree the process connection, wetted materials, seal material, probe or cable length, power supply, output signal and fault behaviour.
For electronic apparatus within the electromagnetic compatibility rules, importers must check the manufacturer's conformity assessment and provide importer identification. Relevant instructions must accompany the apparatus in English. Where hazardous-substance restrictions apply, importers are responsible for compliance. For instruments intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, confirm the applicable equipment regulations with the relevant authority. Ask for documents matched to the exact model and intended location.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative batch of industrial liquid level transmitters under 9026 10 29 00, invoiced at £10,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £10,900. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £10,900, so it is £2,180. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Calibration: match each certificate to the serial number and ordered range. Compare the output with a reference at several liquid levels, rising and falling, and check repeatability.
Process fit: measure connections, probe length and cable length against the drawing. Check wetted materials and seals against the agreed liquid compatibility information.
Sealing and installation: inspect cable glands, enclosure seals and submerged cable joints. Check the claimed ingress protection against supporting test records and inspect installation clearances.
Documents and configuration: match labels, model identifiers, conformity documents and hazardous-area certificates to the shipment. Check supply requirements, output scaling and fault settings during inspection.

What goes wrong
A hydrostatic transmitter configured for the wrong liquid density reports the wrong level. Foam, tank obstructions or unsuitable mounting can produce unstable non-contact readings. A probe may work in a clean test tank but behave differently in the buyer's process. Approve a sample against the actual installation conditions before agreeing bulk acceptance.
Leaks often start at cable entries, seals or incompatible process connections. Incorrect output scaling makes a working instrument appear faulty at the control panel. Certificates may cover a different model or hazardous-area configuration. Hold release until the delivered configuration and supporting documents match the order.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on liquid level transmitters from China?
The selected liquid level, electronic pressure and parts lines carry 0% duty, with no recorded anti-dumping or countervailing duty in the supplied tariff data.
Which commodity code covers an electronic liquid level transmitter?
9026 10 29 00 is the electronic liquid level line. Confirm the measuring function: a hydrostatic pressure probe may require assessment against the electronic pressure line.
What should I specify for a tank level transmitter?
Specify the liquid, density variation, tank geometry, range, temperature, pressure, foam and obstructions, then agree the measuring principle, connection, wetted materials and output.
Can I use a standard transmitter in an explosive atmosphere?
Do not assume suitability. For equipment intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, confirm the applicable regulations with the relevant authority. Check the certificate, equipment category and protection marking against the model and location.
