UK duty on hydronic air curtains

Heading 7322 covers iron or steel central heating radiators and non-electrically heated air heaters and hot-air distributors incorporating a motor-driven fan or blower, together with their parts. This guide concerns water-heated air curtains: specify a hot-water coil rather than an electric heating element. The table shows product variants within the same commodity line, rather than separate tariff lines.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, code 7322 90 00 90 carried 2% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension, steel measure or attached import control for this line.

Confirm the construction, heating method and imported configuration through finding your commodity code. Do not assume that a separately imported motor or controller belongs under the complete unit's code. For the wider heading, see gas-fired warm-air unit heaters. For water-heated unit heaters, see hydronic unit heater sourcing. For trench-mounted heating, see our guide to sourcing hydronic trench convectors.

Match the water coil to the doorway

Specify doorway width, mounting height, mounting orientation and available space. Agree airflow and discharge direction at each fan setting, together with the noise measurement conditions. Request heating output at your actual water supply and return temperatures, entering-air temperature and water flow. A catalogue output without these conditions does not establish suitability.

Agree coil material, working pressure, pressure-test procedure, water-side pressure drop, connection position and thread type. Include access for cleaning, venting and draining, valve operation, door-switch behaviour and the control sequence when heat is unavailable. Approve brackets, wiring diagrams and a sample controller before production.

Check the finished unit's electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility assessment with your testing and certification service. Electromagnetic compatibility rules cover electrical and electronic equipment liable to generate electromagnetic disturbance, subject to exceptions. Where electrical safety rules apply, the importer must ensure that instructions are in easily understandable English.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 50 hydronic air curtains under 7322 90 00 90, invoiced at £32,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £36,000. Duty at 2% is £720. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £36,720, so it is £7,344. Import taxes total £8,064; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £720 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Coil: witness the agreed pressure test, check joints for leakage and inspect fins for crushing, debris and corrosion.

Airflow: run each fan setting, check discharge direction and listen for vibration, rubbing and loose panels.

Installation: compare dimensions, brackets, connection positions and maintenance access with the approved drawing.

Controls and packing: test the door switch and valve sequence, match labels and documents to the model, and check protection around the coil and pipe connections at inspection.

What goes wrong

An air curtain can deliver warm air yet leave part of the doorway uncovered. Excessive mounting height, an unsuitable discharge angle or a mismatched fan setting can undermine the intended air barrier. Heating output can also disappoint when the supplier's test used hotter water than the buyer's system supplies.

Coil leaks, bent connections and crushed fins may only become apparent during installation. Controllers can operate the fan but fail to coordinate the valve and door switch. Agree an operating demonstration using the intended control sequence, retain the approved sample and check production against it before shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on hydronic air curtains from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 2% under 7322 90 00 90, with no trade remedies or suspensions listed. Confirm that the particular unit fits this classification.

Does a hydronic air curtain use electric heating?

The units covered here heat air through a hot-water coil. Specify the heating method explicitly, alongside the electrical supply for the fan and controls.

What heating output should I ask the factory to quote?

Ask for output at your water supply and return temperatures, entering-air temperature, water flow and selected fan setting. Compare units on matching conditions.

What should I check when the air curtains arrive?

Check coil and connection damage, brackets, model identification and supplied documents. During commissioning, check leakage, fan operation, discharge direction and the valve and door-switch sequence.
