Duty on gas-fired warm-air unit heaters

Heading 7322 includes non-electrically heated iron or steel air heaters incorporating a motor-driven fan or blower, and their parts. This guide covers gas-fired warm-air unit heaters within that description. The table shows product variants sharing the same tariff line. For the wider heading, see radiators and towel rails.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, the relevant line 7322 90 00 90 carries 2% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension, steel measure or attached import control for this line.

Confirm the construction, heating method and complete product description before choosing the commodity code. A gas burner with an electrically powered fan is different from an electrically heated appliance. Ask your customs broker to confirm the classification of separately supplied components.

Specify the gas supply and heating duty

Specify the intended gas, supply pressure, useful heat output, airflow, fan electrical supply, mounting arrangement and flue configuration. Ask for drawings showing gas connections, combustion-air intake, exhaust outlet, service access and suspension points. Compare useful heat output with useful heat output, rather than with burner input.

For sale in Great Britain, gas appliances within scope require conformity assessment against essential safety requirements. Importers must check that the manufacturer has carried out the assessment. Request model-specific certificates and test reports, the declaration of conformity and technical documentation through testing and certification.

The manufacturer’s conformity assessment must include testing for the intended gas and UK supply pressure. Instructions must be in easily understandable English. Ask the testing provider to identify the applicable ecodesign category and assess the supporting efficiency documentation; the importer placing a regulated product on the market is responsible for compliance.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 2 gas-fired warm-air unit heaters under 7322 90 00 90, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £1,120 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £7,120. Duty at 2% is £142.40. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,262.40, so it is £1,452.48. Import taxes total £1,594.88; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £142.40 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match the delivered model, burner, gas valve, fan and controller to the approved specification and certification documents. Check the importer’s name and postal address are provided on the appliance, or on packaging or accompanying documentation where appliance labelling is not possible.

Combustion and controls: arrange a competent test team to check ignition, flame-failure shutdown, overheat protection and restart behaviour against the agreed test plan. Record the gas and pressure used during the test.

Airflow and construction: check fan direction, vibration, heat-exchanger joints, mounting points and service access. Compare the flue and combustion-air connections with the approved drawings.

Arrival and packing: check for crushed casing, bent fan blades, loose connectors and damaged exhaust connections. Photograph damage before unpacking fully and compare contents with the packing list. Agree the inspection scope before shipment.

What goes wrong

A heater can match the catalogue photograph while having different gas settings, a substituted valve or a changed controller. These changes can undermine the assessed design. An output figure without its test conditions also makes comparison difficult. Freeze the component list and ask the factory to flag proposed substitutions before production.

Flue connections can arrive distorted, mounting brackets can differ from the drawings and the manual can describe another model. Resolve these discrepancies before accepting the batch. Keep a sample documentation pack with the purchase specification so inspection covers the actual heater configuration.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on gas-fired unit heaters from China?

The supplied tariff record gives 2% for 7322 90 00 90, with no listed trade remedy or suspension. Confirm that the complete heater meets this line’s description.

Is CE marking accepted for gas-fired unit heaters?

Great Britain recognises CE marking alongside UKCA for gas appliances. The applicable conformity assessment and essential safety requirements still apply; check the documents for the exact model.

Can a heater tested for another gas supply be sold in Great Britain?

Do not assume it is suitable. The manufacturer’s assessment must include testing for the intended gas and UK supply pressure. Match the supplied configuration to its assessment documents.

What should I request before ordering?

Request gas and pressure details, useful heat output, airflow, flue drawings, model-specific assessment documents and English instructions. Agree the inspection plan and spare components.
