Sourcing tubular door cores from China
Extruded tubular particleboard door cores from China carry a flat 6% UK duty across the relevant particleboard lines. The GB importer must carry out timber due diligence. Specify the tubular cross-section and verify performance in the intended door construction. Cambridge China Bridge sources extruded tubular particleboard door cores.

Duty depends on the supplied board condition
Heading 4410 covers particleboard and similar board of wood or other ligneous materials, with or without organic binders. This guide concerns extruded tubular particleboard supplied as door-core material. Start by comparing the raw or sanded and other particleboard lines. The faced lines in the table are relevant only when the supplied board has that surface covering.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, all listed lines carry 6% duty for goods from China. The supplied snapshot lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls. Timber due diligence still applies to particleboard placed on the GB market: identify the species and country of harvest and assess illegal-harvest risk.
Send the broker the material composition, cross-section drawing, surface details and description of any further working to confirm the commodity code. Do not classify from the words ‘door core’ alone. See the particleboard and OSB guide for the wider heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood particleboard, raw or sanded | 4410 11 10 00 | 6% | None |
| Other wood particleboard | 4410 11 90 00 | 6% | None |
| Wood particleboard covered with melamine-impregnated paper | 4410 11 30 00 | 6% | None |
| Wood particleboard covered with decorative plastic laminates | 4410 11 50 00 | 6% | None |
Specify the tubes, webs and bonding faces
Specify length, width, thickness, dimensional tolerances, hole shape, hole spacing, web thickness and tube direction. State whether the core is supplied as sheets or cut pieces. Agree density, moisture condition, formaldehyde performance, surface finish and packing. Provide a cross-section drawing and an approved sample for comparison.
Trial the core with the intended skins, adhesive, pressing process, edge rails and lock blocks. Check whether trimming exposes unsupported cavities near fittings. For construction use, ask the relevant authority to confirm the applicable product standard and whether a performance declaration and CE or UKCA marking are required for the exact product and intended use. CE marking remains available for construction products supplied to Great Britain.
Official fire-safety guidance rates fire-resisting doors by their tested performance. For a proposed fire door, ask for evidence covering the intended door construction before accepting a core substitution. Arrange testing and certification around the intended application.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative shipment: a container of raw extruded tubular particleboard door cores under 4410 11 10 00, invoiced at £16,000 free on board, with £3,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £19,500. Duty at 6% is £1,170. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £20,670, so it is £4,134. Import taxes total £5,304; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,170 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Geometry: measure thickness, flatness and squareness across sampled pieces; compare cut ends with the approved hole layout and web thickness.
Condition: check moisture, swelling, mould, crushed tubes and crumbling edges before loading and on arrival; photograph damaged bundles.
Bonding: trial the supplied core with the intended skins and adhesive; inspect for weak bonding, face distortion and movement after conditioning.
Traceability: match bundle identities, the approved specification and test reports; check the timber species and harvest-origin documents during quality inspection.

What goes wrong
A changed hole layout or thinner webs can leave unsupported areas beneath the skins. Uneven thickness produces poor contact during pressing, while weak edges crumble when trimmed. Moisture damage can cause swelling and distortion. Inspect cut sections as well as the outside of the bundle.
A sample can bond well while production material has a different surface or moisture condition. Retain approved samples and compare production batches before shipment. Treat missing harvest-origin documents and a fire-performance report for a different door construction as unresolved issues before accepting the goods.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on tubular particleboard door cores from China?
The relevant particleboard lines carry 6% duty in the supplied tariff snapshot, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. Confirm the line from the surface and degree of working.
Which commodity code covers raw tubular door cores?
Compare 4410 11 10 00 for raw or sanded wood particleboard with 4410 11 90 00 for other wood particleboard. Ask the broker to review the composition and any further working.
Do tubular particleboard door cores need timber due diligence?
Businesses trading in timber products must take steps to ensure legal sourcing. Ask the relevant timber authority to confirm how the UK timber rules apply to your particleboard and your role in placing it on the GB market. Obtain species and harvest-origin information to support your assessment of illegal-timber risk.
Can I use tubular particleboard in a fire door?
Do not decide from the core description alone. Obtain evidence for the intended door construction and have the proposed core checked against it before ordering.
