Sourcing eucalyptus plywood from China
The selected eucalyptus plywood lines carry UK duty from a conditional 0% to 6%. Outer-ply species and panel construction determine classification; an eucalyptus core alone does not secure the suspension. The importer first placing plywood on the GB market must exercise timber due diligence. Cambridge China Bridge sources eucalyptus plywood.

Eucalyptus faces and cores have different duty treatment
Heading 4412 covers plywood, veneered panels and similar laminated wood. This guide covers eucalyptus-faced panels and eucalyptus-core plywood with poplar faces. The selected plywood lines require each wood ply to be no thicker than 6 mm. Record both outer-ply species and the complete core construction. See the wider plywood guide for other species and panel types.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, these lines have standard China duty of 6%. Codes 4412 33 30 10 and 4412 33 30 90 have a conditional 0% suspension for eucalyptus outer-ply plywood. The footnotes exclude mixtures, preparations or products made up of different components containing these products. The selected poplar-face lines have no suspension. No anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or attached import control is recorded for these selected lines.
Confirm the commodity code and suspension eligibility with your customs broker against the actual veneer construction. Do not classify a poplar-faced panel as eucalyptus-faced merely because its core is eucalyptus. Import VAT is normally 20%; see UK import duty and VAT.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eucalyptus outer ply, no birch, poplar, aspen or okoumé | 4412 33 30 10 | 6% | None |
| Eucalyptus outer ply, no birch, poplar or aspen outer ply, other composition | 4412 33 30 90 | 6% | None |
| Poplar-faced eucalyptus-core plywood, no birch outer ply or okoumé | 4412 33 20 10 | 6% | None |
| Poplar-faced eucalyptus-core plywood, no birch outer ply, other composition | 4412 33 20 90 | 6% | None |
Specify the eucalyptus veneers and bond
State whether eucalyptus is used in the face, back, core or throughout the panel. Specify sheet dimensions, thickness tolerance, veneer construction, acceptable core voids, face repairs, surface covering and edge treatment. Agree the intended dry, humid or exterior use, the bond test and acceptance criteria. For construction use, request the panel's performance declaration and formaldehyde evidence, as explained in the published plywood guide.
The business first placing this plywood on the Great Britain market must exercise timber due diligence and must not place illegally harvested timber on that market. Obtain species, harvest country and legality documents for the face and core before ordering. All species in composite products must be considered separately. A Chinese factory address does not identify where its veneers were harvested.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 50 cubic metres of poplar-faced eucalyptus-core plywood under 4412 33 20 10, invoiced at £22,000 free on board, with £3,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £25,500. Duty at 6% is £1,530. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £27,030, so it is £5,406. Import taxes total £6,936; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,530 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Construction: cut sample sheets from different bundles and compare face, back and core veneers, voids, overlaps and repairs with the approved sample.
Bond: match batch test results to the ordered construction and agreed exposure conditions; inspect cut edges for separation and arrange the agreed bond test.
Dimensions and moisture: measure thickness across sheets, check flatness and squareness, and compare moisture at loading and arrival with the agreed specification.
Arrival: check wrapping, wet edges, mould, crushed corners and bundle identification; retain photographs and cut samples for quality inspection.

What goes wrong
The description eucalyptus plywood can hide a poplar face, mixed core or substituted veneers. A smooth face may conceal core voids and overlaps. These differences affect machining, bond performance and classification. Compare cut sections with the approved construction and resolve species discrepancies before shipment.
Wet packs can arrive warped or mouldy, while weak bonds separate after exposure to moisture. Missing harvest records leave gaps in the timber due-diligence file even when appearance checks pass. Keep affected bundles identifiable, record arrival condition and resolve missing documents before release for sale.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on eucalyptus plywood from China?
The selected lines have standard duty of 6%. Qualifying eucalyptus outer-ply lines have a conditional 0% suspension; the selected poplar-face lines do not. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded.
Does an eucalyptus core qualify for zero duty?
An eucalyptus core alone does not establish eligibility. The suspended lines specify an eucalyptus outer ply without birch, poplar or aspen outer plies. Ask your broker to check the full construction and suspension footnotes.
What timber documents should I request?
Obtain species, harvest country and legality evidence for every veneer layer. The business first placing plywood on the Great Britain market must exercise timber due diligence; factory location alone does not establish harvest origin.
How do I check eucalyptus plywood quality?
Cut sample sheets to inspect the core, compare batch bond tests with the agreed use, measure thickness and moisture, and check arrival packs for wet edges, mould and damage.
