Sourcing resin lamps and figurines from China

Before ordering, verify character permissions, confirm the actual materials, assess the complete lamp and power supply, and approve resin quality and parcel packing. Test production samples rather than relying on catalogue photographs. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate these checks with its own staff in China.

Check character rights before commissioning samples

For TV, game and film themes, check copyright in the artwork, trade marks used on products or packaging, and registered designs. Copyright material cannot be copied or used without permission. A trade mark licence is an agreement with its owner; using a registered design requires a licence or purchase from its owner. Border Force has seized counterfeit merchandise at UK ports and airports.

Ask for the licence and verify the authorisation chain with the rights holder. Check the characters, lamp and figurine categories, manufacturing factory, sales territories, channels, validity and artwork approval process. Treat a factory catalogue or a claim of ‘licensed production’ as a starting point for verification. If permissions remain unclear, pause that design and brief an original alternative through product development.

Confirm what the sample is made from

Specify solid cast epoxy around detailed figures or scenes, rather than accepting ‘resin lamp’ as the material description. Identify the clear body, embedded figure, base, paint and adhesives separately. Acrylic edge-lit panels and PVC moulded figures are different constructions. A cast collectible may also use a different resin from the clear lamp body.

Request material specifications, casting records and an unfinished sample or sacrificial cross-section. Examine whether the scene is physically embedded, whether the body is solid, and whether there are sheet edges, hollow sections or assembly joints. Weight, flexibility and appearance are clues, not proof of polymer identity. Commission material identification if the sample and paperwork disagree; avoid improvised burning tests.

Assess the complete LED lamp for the UK

For Great Britain, assess applicability of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 before sale. Ask a competent testing provider to assess the lamp, control electronics and mains power supply separately, using their rated inputs and intended use. For the marking and documentation position, see our UKCA and CE guide. Confirm the applicable CE or UKCA marking route with the relevant authority; Northern Ireland needs a separate assessment.

Freeze the supplied configuration: mains plug or USB connection, adapter model, cable, switch and lighting components. Ask for evidence covering that exact combination, including plug suitability for UK use, electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and restricted substances as applicable. Test heat around the resin, cable anchorage, stability and accessible connections. For USB-only lamps, specify compatible power supplies and clear instructions rather than assuming any charger will do.

Set resin and figure acceptance criteria

Inspect with the lamp both off and illuminated: bubbles can hide in photographs and become prominent around faces or lighting points. Agree acceptable bubble locations, clarity, colour, figure positioning, paint detail, seams, scratches and base alignment against a retained master sample. Check fragile accessories and attachment points on collectible figurines.

Ask for curing and batch records. Reject tacky surfaces and investigate persistent curing odour after unpacking; smell alone cannot establish safety or complete cure. Compare exposed samples with protected controls in an agreed light and heat ageing programme to assess yellowing, cracking and paint changes. Record conditions and acceptance criteria before testing. Use our inspection guide for batch sampling and reporting.

Test parcel packing and UK fulfilment

Support the heavy resin body and base without loading protruding figures or accessories. Separate the adapter and cable so they cannot strike or scratch the product. Trial the actual retail box inside its intended delivery carton. Agree a drop-test method suited to the distribution route, then unpack and check cracks, loose parts, lighting function and packaging damage. See checks after a carton drop test.

For UK warehousing and fulfilment, agree incoming damage checks, design and batch identification, barcode placement, protective repacking and replacement handling. Run a trial parcel through the warehouse before releasing stock. Keep damaged returns separate for assessment, and record whether failures concern the resin, figure, electronics or packing so corrective action reaches the right factory process.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy licensed character lamps from any Chinese factory?

Verify the licence and authorisation chain with the rights holder. Check that it covers your designs, product categories, factory and sales territories before commissioning production.

How can I tell epoxy resin from acrylic or PVC?

Ask for material records and an unfinished or sectioned sample. Examine construction and embedded details. Appearance and weight are clues; use laboratory identification if the material remains uncertain.

Does a USB resin lamp need UK safety checks?

Assess the lamp and any supplied mains adapter separately. Confirm applicable requirements from the rated inputs and design, and test the complete supplied configuration.

How do I reduce broken resin figurines in delivery?

Support the body, protect protruding details and isolate accessories. Drop-test the complete parcel pack, inspect the product afterwards and trial warehouse dispatch before releasing stock.
