Sourcing vacuum heat-treatment furnaces from China
Electric vacuum heat-treatment furnaces from China carry 0% UK duty across the relevant furnace and parts lines. Furnaces supplied as machinery need conformity assessment, a declaration and the relevant marking before sale or use in Great Britain. Cambridge China Bridge sources electric vacuum heat-treatment furnaces.

UK duty and classification
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 24 October 2026, heading 8514 covers industrial or laboratory electric furnaces and ovens, induction or dielectric heat-treatment equipment, and parts. All supplied lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls in this tariff snapshot.
For vacuum heat treatment, select the code from the heating method and intended use. Resistance-heated vacuum furnaces fall within other resistance-heated furnaces; induction designs have their own line. The other-furnace row is conditional on the actual design. Confirm the commodity code and see the wider electric furnace guide.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resistance-heated vacuum heat-treatment furnaces | 8514 19 80 00 | 0% | None |
| Induction-heated vacuum furnaces | 8514 20 10 00 | 0% | None |
| Other electric furnaces, where the heating design fits | 8514 39 90 00 | 0% | None |
| Other furnace parts | 8514 90 70 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the loaded cycle and vacuum system
Specify the workpiece material, treatment process, usable hot-zone dimensions, load weight, working temperature, uniformity, ramp and hold programme, and cooling method. Agree acceptance criteria with representative loaded fixtures. State whether the hot zone uses graphite or metallic insulation, and agree contamination limits for the intended work.
Define operating vacuum, evacuation time, leak-rate acceptance, pump arrangement, gauges, seals, cooling-water needs and backfill gas. For gas quenching, specify the pressure, gas supply and cooling performance. Pressure equipment rules cover equipment and assemblies with maximum allowable pressure above 0.5 bar, subject to exclusions; assess the quench system separately.
For a furnace supplied as machinery in Great Britain, conformity assessment, a declaration of conformity and the relevant marking are required. Request the English manual, wiring diagrams and electromagnetic compatibility evidence described in our wider guide. Before using qualifying pressure equipment, a written scheme of examination and an examination are required.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Two compact resistance-heated vacuum heat-treatment furnaces; illustrative order under 8514 19 80 00, invoiced at £64,000 free on board, with £5,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £69,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £69,500, so it is £13,900. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Loaded cycle: witness a temperature survey with calibrated sensors in the agreed load arrangement; retain the ramp, hold, uniformity and cooling records.
Vacuum integrity: record evacuation and isolated pressure-rise tests; check pump condition, gauge identification, door seals and accessible joints against the agreed specification.
Safety and documents: check earthing, door interlocks, over-temperature protection and emergency stop; match the rating plate, conformity declaration and English manual to the delivered model.
Arrival condition: inspect hot-zone supports, insulation, pipework, gauges and cabinet connections for movement or damage; check packing records and spares before commissioning.

What goes wrong
An empty chamber can pass a temperature test while a loaded batch heats unevenly. Door-seal leaks, contaminated pumps or leaking cooling connections can prevent the agreed vacuum. An unsuitable hot-zone material can compromise the intended process. Require recorded tests using the agreed load and cycle.
Transit can displace insulation, damage gauges or loosen connections. Missing pump consumables, seals and control backups can delay commissioning. Agree packing, critical spares and arrival checks before shipment; use the inspection guide to define the inspection brief.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on vacuum heat-treatment furnaces from China?
The supplied tariff snapshot shows 0% duty on all relevant furnace and parts lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. The exact code depends on the heating method and use.
Does a vacuum furnace use the vacuum arc furnace code?
Do not select that line from the word vacuum alone. Establish whether heating is by resistance, induction, vacuum arc or another method, then confirm the classification.
What should a factory acceptance test include?
Use representative loaded fixtures. Record temperature uniformity, heating and cooling behaviour, evacuation time, isolated pressure rise and safety-interlock operation against the agreed specification.
Does gas quenching need pressure safety checks?
Assess the pressure equipment rules and exclusions for the actual quench system. Qualifying pressure equipment requires a written scheme of examination and an examination before use.
