Design around what goes inside

A cosmetics brand may need bottles to remain upright; a tradesperson needs a loaded bag to carry comfortably without the handles pulling away. Start the brief with the contents, intended load, dimensions and how the bag is carried. Empty display samples can hide the failure that matters in use.

Distinguish a stock bag with a logo from a custom pattern with new compartments or construction. Request separate options so you can see whether the custom work earns its cost. A new logo on an existing shape and a new bag design are different production tasks.

Define the complete construction

Ask for a bill of materials and a dimensioned drawing. Name the parts that cannot be substituted, including the zip and reinforcement. Use the table to keep competing quotes comparable.

Trial the filled bag

Use representative contents, close the bag, carry it and inspect how the load reaches the handles and seams. Agree the load and test sequence before approving production; do not treat a casual trial as a certified load rating. For cosmetic pouches, check whether the lining can be cleaned in the way the customer expects.

Define any claimed water resistance precisely and agree how it will be tested. A coated outer fabric does not settle what happens at seams or zips. Keep the signed sample, photographs and drawing revision together and require approval before material substitutions.

Quote packing and branding honestly

Ask how bags are packed, whether they can be flattened without damage and what their packed carton dimensions are. Protect stiffeners, printed surfaces and any parts that mark one another. Compare the landed price after packaging and freight are included, not only the factory piece price.

Know when a stock bag is enough

If a standard bag meets the need and you only require a short run, a local stockholder or decorator may be the more practical supplier. Custom compartments are worth considering when they solve a real handling problem, not merely because a factory will make them.

For an enquiry, send a sample or drawing, contents and intended load, quantities by colour, branding artwork, destination and arrival date.
