Sourcing cargo delivery drones from China
Cargo delivery drones from China carry 0% UK duty across the listed weight bands, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. For sale in Great Britain, their radio equipment must meet the essential requirements; check the permissions for the intended delivery route separately. Cambridge China Bridge sources cargo delivery drones.

Cargo drone duty and tariff controls
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 23 October 2026, heading 8806 covers unmanned aircraft. Cargo delivery drones fall within its non-passenger branches. The table selects civil-use lines by maximum take-off weight and distinguishes remote-controlled flight only from other flight capabilities. The selected lines carry 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no listed suspension.
The tariff attaches a cultural-goods export licence entry to these lines. Official guidance says there are no cultural-goods import licensing requirements into Great Britain; ask your customs broker to confirm how to handle the entry. Some heavier aircraft lines also attach fluorinated greenhouse gas import controls. Confirm applicability and declaration requirements with your broker. If the equipment contains fluorinated gas, official guidance requires imported gas equipment to be labelled.
Give your broker the maximum take-off weight, flight-control description, civil-use specification and details of any permanently integrated camera. Confirm the commodity code before shipment. For wider heading coverage, see drone light-show aircraft. The UK import duty and VAT guide explains the tax calculation.

Specify the loaded delivery mission
Define the parcel dimensions, payload mass, cargo attachment, centre-of-gravity envelope and delivery method. State whether the aircraft lands, lowers the parcel or releases it. Ask for flight logs using your intended payload and battery configuration, showing the outbound flight, delivery and return with the agreed reserve. Empty-aircraft endurance is insufficient for comparing delivery performance.
Agree the intended route and approval approach with the operator's aviation adviser before selecting a platform. An operational authorisation is not transferable. For radio equipment placed on the Great Britain market, the importer must ensure it meets the essential requirements. Request conformity evidence matching the aircraft, controller, antennas and firmware supplied, plus battery transport test summaries. Use testing and certification support to review the evidence.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 7 small civil cargo delivery drones, remote-controlled only under 8806 22 90 10, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £15,800. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £15,800, so it is £3,160. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Cargo system: check the compartment dimensions, attachment security, release interlock and landing clearance using representative parcels. Check that movement of the parcel does not shift the load outside the agreed balance limits.
Loaded flight: review sample flight logs and arrange a flight test within the operator's permissions. Check delivery accuracy, battery reserve and the response to a simulated lost control link against the agreed acceptance criteria.
Batteries and structure: inspect packs for swelling or impact damage, check connectors and charger compatibility, and inspect propellers, folding-arm locks and landing gear after transport.
Configuration and records: match serial numbers, battery types, antennas and firmware to the approved sample and supplier evidence. Check instructions cover loading, unloading, maintenance and emergency actions. The inspection guide explains how to organise sampling.

What goes wrong
An empty-aircraft demonstration can conceal inadequate loaded endurance. Loose cargo mounts, moving parcels and unreliable release mechanisms can undermine the delivery task. Write loaded acceptance criteria into the purchase specification and record the tested configuration.
A changed battery, antenna or firmware can leave the delivered configuration different from the sample and supporting reports. Missing battery transport evidence can also delay shipment. Keep configuration records and review substitutions before dispatch; check the permissions for your own delivery operation separately from the supplier's demonstrations.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For machinery and equipment, see machinery imports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on cargo delivery drones from China?
The listed cargo-relevant lines under heading 8806 carry 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no listed suspension.
Which weight determines a cargo drone's commodity code?
The selected lines use maximum take-off weight, rather than payload capacity. Classification also distinguishes remote-controlled flight only from other flight capabilities.
Can the factory's operational authorisation cover my deliveries?
An operational authorisation is not transferable. Ask your aviation adviser to check the permissions for your delivery route and cargo before ordering.
What should I ask a cargo drone factory to demonstrate?
A complete loaded delivery and return, cargo retention and release, battery reserve and lost-link response, using the aircraft, batteries and firmware you intend to buy.
