Sourcing fire suppression drones from China

Fire suppression drones from China carry 0% UK duty across the supplied heading 8806 lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Open-category flights cannot drop material, so settle the operating route before buying a suppressant-dropping model. Cambridge China Bridge sources fire suppression drones.

UK duty on fire suppression drones

Heading 8806 covers unmanned aircraft. For fire suppression drones, establish maximum take-off weight with the intended equipment and payload, and whether flight is remote-controlled only or falls within the other flight category. The table gives candidate civil-use lines, rather than a classification based solely on the words “fire suppression”. For related aircraft under this heading, see agricultural spraying drones.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 6 October 2026, all supplied lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. No anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or suspension is recorded. Import VAT is normally 20%. Keep the aircraft, suppressant and separately supplied equipment clearly described in the order documents.

The tariff attaches a cultural export licence control to the supplied lines and fluorinated greenhouse gas import control to some heavier aircraft lines. Ask your customs broker to confirm applicable requirements for goods from China. Equipment containing banned fluorinated gases must not be placed on the Great Britain market. Obtain the suppressant composition before ordering. Confirm the model’s commodity code using its flight capability and weight.

Specify the suppression system and loaded aircraft

State whether the aircraft carries a tank, receives water through a ground-fed hose or releases a suppression payload. Specify the intended fire scenario, agent composition, nozzle pattern, delivery rate, usable payload and flight endurance with the working equipment fitted. For hose-fed models, agree coupling dimensions, ground pump compatibility, hose routing and how hose forces will be demonstrated.

Open-category flights cannot drop material. For a suppressant-dropping model, confirm the operating route with the intended operator before ordering or arranging a demonstration. Record the exact aircraft, payload arrangement and firmware in the acceptance specification.

Radio equipment must conform with the essential requirements before an importer places it on the Great Britain market. Ask for radio evidence matching the aircraft, controller and firmware supplied. Agree an English operating manual, maintenance instructions, spare pump and nozzle availability, and battery transport test evidence.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative trial order of a civil, remote-controlled, hose-fed fire suppression drone under 8806 24 00 10, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £15,800. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £15,800, so it is £3,160. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Aircraft and payload: match serial numbers and firmware to the order; weigh the agreed configuration and inspect tank mounts, hose supports, landing gear and propeller clearance.

Delivery system: check couplings, seals, leaks, nozzle direction and shut-off on arrival; compare measured delivery with the agreed acceptance specification.

Loaded demonstration: have the intended operator demonstrate stability, endurance and loss-of-link behaviour under the confirmed operating route, including hose forces where relevant.

Battery and documents: inspect packs for swelling or damage, check charger fit, and match radio evidence, battery transport test summaries and suppressant identification to the delivered equipment. Use the inspection guide to plan sampling.

What goes wrong

An unloaded flight video leaves the working configuration unproven. Look for reduced endurance with a full tank, unstable handling as liquid moves, hose snagging, nozzle recoil and leaks around pump connections. Treat these as acceptance checks, and request a demonstration using the agreed equipment and agent before approving shipment.

A changed nozzle, controller or firmware can leave the delivered configuration different from the tested sample. Freeze the accepted configuration in the order and record substitutions for review. Ask for evidence of suppression performance in the intended fire scenario; a video showing water discharge alone does not establish that performance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on fire suppression drones from China?

The supplied heading 8806 lines carry 0% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Import VAT is normally 20%.

Can a fire suppression drone drop material in the open category?

No. Open-category flights cannot drop material. Confirm the operating route with the intended operator before buying a suppressant-dropping model.

What should I ask the Chinese factory to demonstrate?

Loaded endurance, delivery rate, nozzle shut-off and stable handling with the agreed tank or hose arrangement. Match the demonstration aircraft and firmware to the order.

What documents should I request before shipment?

Request model-matched radio evidence, battery transport test summaries, operating instructions and suppressant composition. Ask your broker to resolve the tariff’s attached controls.
