Sourcing bulldozers from China
Bulldozers from China carry 0% UK customs duty across the tracked and other bulldozer lines. New machines placed on the Great Britain market must have CE or UKCA marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions. Check the engine approval and blade configuration before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources bulldozers.

Bulldozer duty and commodity codes
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 3 October 2026, bulldozers and angledozers from China carry 0% customs duty. Heading 8429 covers self-propelled earthmoving machines; this guide covers bulldozers only. The supplied tariff records show no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for either bulldozer code.
Track-laying machines fall under 8429 11 00 00; other bulldozers and angledozers fall under 8429 19 00 00. The table separates blade configurations within these shared codes. Confirm the running gear and machine description using finding your commodity code. For the wider heading, see the excavator guide.
Zero customs duty does not remove import VAT, normally 20%. Use the import duty and VAT guide when preparing the landed-cost calculation.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Track-laying bulldozers with straight blades | 8429 11 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Wheeled bulldozers with straight blades | 8429 19 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the blade, running gear and engine
State whether the machine is tracked or wheeled, the intended ground conditions, operating weight, blade width and blade movement. Specify straight or angle blade, tilt adjustment, cutting-edge material, ripper arrangement and transport dimensions. Name the engine, transmission and hydraulic components in the purchase specification, and agree how substitutions will be approved.
For new machinery placed on the Great Britain market, CE or UKCA marking, a declaration of conformity and English instructions are required. Machinery compliance also includes conformity assessment and a technical file available on request. Ask for documents identifying the actual model and configuration through testing and certification.
New combustion-engined bulldozers need a type-approved engine with approval markings on the engine. Confirm with the relevant authority which outdoor-noise requirements apply to the actual machine. Request the engine approval evidence and noise assessment with the quotation, and match them to the engine and machine delivered.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: One track-laying bulldozer for a contractor; illustrative order under 8429 11 00 00, invoiced at £60,000 free on board, with £5,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £65,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £65,000, so it is £13,000. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Blade and ripper: check dimensions against the order, cutting-edge fit, welds, pivot play and the full range of lift, tilt and angle movement.
Running gear: inspect track shoes, rollers, sprockets and tension, or tyres and wheel fixings. Test steering, travel and braking in a controlled inspection area.
Hydraulics and transmission: run the machine to operating temperature, test blade movement under an agreed load, and check hoses, cylinders and transmission housings for leaks.
Identity and documents: match machine and engine plates to the ordered configuration, declaration and engine approval evidence. Check English instructions, the parts book and noise documentation during quality inspection. Repeat the physical checks on arrival.
What goes wrong
A generic earthmoving-machine quotation can leave blade movement, track shoes or the ripper unspecified. A machine may arrive with different hydraulic components, excessive pivot play or leaks that appear only after warming up. Make acceptance depend on the written configuration and a recorded function test.
Documents can describe a different model or engine from the machine shipped. Check identities before shipment and again on arrival. Missing English instructions, engine approval evidence or noise documentation should be resolved before accepting the machine for business use.
