Sourcing aluminium angle profiles from China
Aluminium angle profiles from China carry 6% ordinary UK duty across the relevant supplied lines. Covered extrusions can also attract anti-dumping duty up to 35.1%. Confirm the producer and measure scope before ordering, and specify leg widths, thickness, temper and finish. Cambridge China Bridge sources aluminium angle profiles.

UK duty on aluminium angle profiles
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 October 2026, heading 7604 covers aluminium bars, rods and profiles. Open angle sections are profiles rather than hollow sections. Alloy equal-leg and unequal-leg angles share the other-profiles line shown here; non-alloy angles have separate lines. The supplied facts record 6% ordinary duty on each selected line, with no suspension or attached import control.
The supplied facts leave anti-dumping rates blank. This does not establish that no measure applies: the published extrusion guide identifies additional duty up to 35.1%, or 15.4% for listed non-sampled cooperating exporters, with individual producer rates subject to invoice conditions. The official notice applies until 16 December 2027. Confirm scope, producer identity and declarations with your customs broker; do not treat ordinary duty as the complete tax cost.
Provide the drawing, composition, manufacturing process and any cutting or drilling details when confirming your commodity code. The wider aluminium extrusion guide explains the measure and exclusions. Its hollow-profile suspension should not be assumed to cover open angles. That guide also covers the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism; confirm with HMRC or your customs broker whether and when it applies to your imports.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminium alloy equal-leg angle profiles | 7604 29 90 90 | 6% | See the tariff |
| Non-alloy angle profiles, unassembled, containing not more than 99.3% aluminium | 7604 10 90 80 | 6% | See the tariff |
| Other non-alloy aluminium angle profiles | 7604 10 90 89 | 6% | See the tariff |
Leg widths, corner geometry and temper
Specify equal or unequal legs, each leg width, wall thickness, internal corner radius, cut length and tolerances. Mark which faces mate with other parts and whether the corner must clear a bracket or panel. State alloy and temper, and request batch-linked mill certificates rather than accepting a description such as aluminium angle.
Agree straightness, twist, cut-end squareness and permitted burrs. For anodised or powder-coated angles, specify coating thickness, colour sample and visible faces. For construction use, ask a compliance adviser to assess the intended application before approving claims or markings. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative mixed bundle of equal-leg and unequal-leg alloy angles for a fabrication workshop; values are illustrative, with anti-dumping duty checked separately under 7604 29 90 90, invoiced at £9,702 free on board, with £2,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £11,902. Duty at 6% is £714.12. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £12,616.12, so it is £2,523.22. Import taxes total £3,237.34; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £714.12 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Dimensions: measure both legs, wall thickness and corner radius against the drawing; check straightness and twist on production lengths.
Material: match bundle identification to mill certificates and the ordered alloy and temper; arrange composition and mechanical checks where needed.
Finish: measure the agreed coating thickness, compare colour with the approved sample and inspect visible faces for scratches.
Arrival: count lengths, check cut ends and burrs, trial-fit mating parts and inspect interleaving and end protection. Agree these checks in your inspection brief.

What goes wrong
An angle can match its outside dimensions while an oversized internal radius prevents a bracket seating. Thin walls, twisted lengths and out-of-square cuts create assembly problems. Soft temper can distort during fastening, while poor interleaving leaves scratches along the visible face. Approve a trial assembly and retain a reference sample.
The customs problem is assuming that the blank anti-dumping field means only ordinary duty is payable. Check the actual producer and invoice conditions before comparing suppliers. Cutting, drilling or anodising should be described accurately when checking classification and measure scope.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on aluminium angles from China?
The supplied tariff facts show 6% ordinary duty on the relevant profile lines. Anti-dumping fields are blank, but the published extrusion guide identifies additional duty up to 35.1%; confirm applicability before ordering.
Do equal and unequal aluminium angles use different codes?
The supplied alloy other-profiles line can cover either shape. Equal and unequal legs alone do not establish different codes; confirm composition and fabrication details.
What should I put on an aluminium angle drawing?
Both leg widths, wall thickness, internal radius, cut length, tolerances, alloy, temper and finish. Mark mating and visible faces, then agree straightness, twist and burr acceptance.
Can I use aluminium angles in a building project?
Ask a compliance adviser to assess the intended application and evidence before ordering. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market; agree the material and performance specification.
