Sourcing aluminium T-slot profiles from China

Aluminium T-slot framing profiles from China normally pay 6% UK duty. In-scope extrusions also attract exporter-dependent anti-dumping duty, up to 35.1%. Confirm the section drawing, commodity code and producer before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources aluminium T-slot framing profiles.

UK duty on T-slot framing profiles

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 October 2026, heading 7604 covers aluminium bars, rods and profiles, with 6% standard duty on the listed Chinese-origin lines. For T-slot framing, the relevant alloy branches are hollow profiles and other profiles. The non-alloy rows are alternatives only where the material specification supports that classification. See the wider aluminium extrusions guide.

The supplied extract leaves anti-dumping rates blank. That does not establish an exemption: the published reference guide and official notice identify a separate measure on in-scope Chinese extrusions. The residual rate is 35.1%, with 15.4% for listed non-sampled cooperating exporters and individual producer rates. Check scope, producer identity and the signed invoice declaration. Missing invoices or declarations trigger the residual amount. A tariff suspension does not remove this separate duty.

The hollow-profile line lists a specification-specific 0% suspension for certain thin-walled profiles; do not assume ordinary T-slot framing qualifies. The supplied extract lists no import controls for these profile lines. Give your broker the cross-section, composition and fabrication details, and confirm the code using finding your commodity code.

Specify the slot and the complete joint

Supply a dimensioned cross-section showing slot opening, internal nut channel, slot lip thickness, wall thickness and enclosed cavities. Specify alloy, temper, cut lengths, straightness, twist and finish. Identify the exact nuts, brackets and connectors to be used, and approve an assembled sample with those parts. Matching outside dimensions alone does not establish compatibility.

Agree cut-end squareness, deburring, drilled-hole positions and thread details where machining is included. State anodising or coating thickness and colour, and approve a finish sample. For a load-bearing frame, ask for supporting calculations and an agreed assembly test covering the intended load, span and connections.

If the intended application is a construction product, check the applicable conformity route before accepting a supplier's certificate. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market. The reference guide also identifies these aluminium tariff lines as within the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism from 1 January 2027, so request supplier emissions data when planning future imports.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative trial batch of cut-to-length hollow T-slot profiles for workshop frames; check anti-dumping duty separately under 7604 21 00 00, invoiced at £3,000 free on board, with £2,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,200. Duty at 6% is £312. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,512, so it is £1,102.40. Import taxes total £1,414.40; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £312 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Slot fit: measure the opening, nut channel and lips against the approved drawing; assemble with your specified nuts and brackets and check seating and retention.

Material and geometry: match batch certificates to the agreed alloy and temper; check wall thickness, weight per metre, straightness, twist and cut-end squareness.

Finish and machining: measure coating thickness, compare colour with the approved sample, and check burrs, hole positions, threads and blocked slots.

Packing and arrival: verify bundle labels and quantities, inspect end protection and interleaving, and check for bent lengths and rubbed surfaces. Record findings through quality inspection.

What goes wrong

Profiles share an outside size but use different slot channels, leaving nuts loose or unable to enter. Thin slot lips deform when joints are tightened, bowed lengths pull frames out of square, and poor end cuts leave gaps at brackets. Test the complete connection with production profiles rather than approving the extrusion by appearance.

The customs mistake is budgeting only for ordinary duty because the extract has blank anti-dumping entries. Check the producer and invoice declaration before shipment. Keep machined profiles, connectors and assembled frames clearly described so your broker can assess each item. Use UK import duty and VAT when comparing the total import cost.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on aluminium T-slot profiles from China?

The supplied tariff data shows 6% standard duty. In-scope extrusions also attract separate anti-dumping duty, up to 35.1%, depending on the exporter. The listed hollow-profile suspension is specification-specific.

Will Chinese T-slot profiles fit my existing connectors?

Do not rely on outside dimensions. Compare the slot opening, internal channel and lip thickness, then assemble a production sample with your existing nuts, brackets and connectors.

Which commodity code covers hollow T-slot profiles?

The supplied data lists 7604 21 00 00 for aluminium alloy hollow profiles and 7604 29 90 90 for other alloy profiles. Give your broker the cross-section and fabrication details to confirm classification.

Do aluminium T-slot profiles need CE marking?

Check the intended application and applicable conformity route before ordering. For construction products placed on the Great Britain market, CE marking remains available. Ask for evidence tied to the product and intended use.
