How to source a pet-hair removal kit from China

Start with stock models, compare specialist factories with a trading company, and appoint someone to assemble and check the complete kit. Approve the products together before ordering and cost the finished box, including freight and taxes. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate this through its own staff in China.

Choose a sourcing route for the complete kit

Brief suppliers on the carpet and upholstery scraper, reusable self-cleaning lint roller and self-cleaning grooming brush as a boxed product. Ask specialist factories for their own item, then compare that combined offer with a trading company supplying the complete kit. Compare identical specifications and delivery scope. Our factory versus trading company guide explains the supplier distinction.

Specialist factories give you direct contact about scraper edges, roller cleaning mechanisms and grooming pins, but someone must coordinate deliveries and packing. A trader can manage the kit through a single contact; ask which factories supply the parts and who handles replacements. For the validation batch, request stock models and available colours through our small-order service, with samples quoted separately.

Match colours and branding across suppliers

Create a shared specification with photographs, materials, dimensions, handle finish, colour references and logo artwork. Identify which surfaces should match. Plastic texture and material can make the same colour reference look different, so compare physical parts together under the same lighting rather than approving separate supplier photographs.

Ask each supplier to separate stock availability from custom colour, logo and packaging options. For the trial, consider coordinated stock colours with branding on a sleeve or label. Approve logo position and print appearance on the actual material. The MOQ and sampling guide explains why removing setup work can help with small quantities.

Compare working samples as a complete set

Give competing samples the same tasks. Try the scraper on the intended carpet and upholstery, checking hair removal, snagging and surface damage. Check whether the roller picks up hair, releases it into its chamber and empties cleanly. Assess the grooming brush for pin finish, comfortable handling and reliable hair release before arranging a supervised grooming trial.

Record each sample’s supplier and model, photograph faults and compare cleaning, grip and storage. Reject weak components before choosing the box. Then assemble the selected products and compare their colours, appearance and fit together. Our sample-comparison service can organise this assessment. Retain the approved complete kit alongside its component specifications.

Assign kitting and retail packaging

Name the party responsible for receiving components, checking them, assembling kits and replacing missing or damaged parts. This could be the trader, an agreed packing site in China or your UK operation. Get separate quotes for supplier-to-packer transport, receiving, storage, assembly and retail packaging. Agree who owns leftover components and how they are returned or used.

Approve a packed sample with the actual scraper, roller and brush. Check that the insert holds them securely, the scraper cannot damage neighbouring parts and the brush pins are protected. Include clear use and cleaning instructions based on sample testing. Record packed dimensions and weight for freight quotations, and agree a contents check for every validation kit before dispatch.

Build the landed-cost target backwards

Write your target in pounds per saleable kit delivered to a named UK address, stating whether it includes VAT and sample costs. Add the quoted factory prices of the scraper, roller and brush, then branding, retail packaging and assembly. Add transport between suppliers and the packing site. Keep sample and courier spending visible rather than hiding it inside a future repeat-order price.

Obtain freight quotes using the finished cartons’ dimensions, weight and delivery scope. Divide freight, insurance, clearance and UK delivery costs by the saleable kits. Build a provisional duty calculation for each item using its checked commodity code, applicable rate and allocated customs value, including relevant border freight and insurance. Ask your customs agent to confirm the treatment of the boxed kit before using that component calculation for a declaration.

Import VAT valuation starts from the customs value for duty. Have your customs agent calculate the full import VAT value and apply the confirmed rate. Show recoverable VAT separately in the cash requirement; include unrecoverable VAT in cost. Compare the resulting kit cost with your target and identify which quoted element causes any gap. Our landed-price guide covers the underlying cost method.

Move from validation to follow-on and repeat orders

Use the requested validation batch to test customer response, component quality and packing, without promising a repeat order. Keep a record of sales, complaints, returns and which tool customers use. Move to the proposed larger follow-on batch only when those findings support it and the revised landed-cost quotation meets your target.

For the follow-on, keep the approved models and packing specification stable so results remain comparable. Ask for a fresh quotation at that quantity rather than assuming a discount. Before repeat orders, confirm component availability, colour consistency, replacement arrangements and packaging supply. Require approval before substitutions, and recheck the packed sample and freight calculation whenever the kit changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I source a pet-hair removal kit in small quantities?

Ask for stock models, available colours and simple packaging. Get written acceptance of your validation quantity for each component and for assembly. Sample availability alone does not confirm that complete kits can be supplied.

Should I use separate factories or a trading company?

Compare the complete delivered kit. Separate factories give direct component contact but need coordination. A trader can manage assembly and replacements; confirm its component sources and responsibility for faults.

How do I match colours across different factories?

Use a shared physical colour reference and compare the actual parts together. Agree acceptable differences in texture and finish. Coordinated stock colours may suit the trial better than custom colour production.

How do I calculate the landed cost per kit?

Add component prices, branding, packing, assembly, transport, freight, clearance, duty and unrecoverable VAT. Divide shared shipment costs by saleable kits. Show sample spending and recoverable VAT separately.
