Will my self-build warranty accept China materials?
Acceptance needs a project-specific decision from your warranty provider. Before ordering, obtain written acceptance of the exact product evidence and any conditions, then agree inspections and hold points before work is concealed. Factory evidence collection can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Ask the warranty provider before committing
Do not assume acceptance from the country of manufacture, a supplier's assurance or acceptance on another project. Send your structural warranty provider the site reference, proposed product, manufacturer, intended location and installation details. Ask who can issue the technical acceptance and confirm its effect on the proposed warranty cover. For radiator installation checks, see our guide to Chinese radiators and UK heating.
Keep warranty review, designer review and building control correspondence separately identifiable. Government guidance says to contact a building control body to check the building regulations or apply for approval. Ask each reviewer what they need before purchasing; do not treat a reply from one as acceptance by the others.
Get written acceptance of the identified evidence
Use our construction submittal guide to assemble the supplier pack. Add a covering request asking the warranty provider to identify the documents and revisions reviewed, the product and installation accepted, outstanding conditions and any proposed exclusions. Ask whether additional certification, testing or specialist design review is needed.
Check whether the response accepts the proposed use or merely acknowledges receipt. Ask the provider to clarify conditional or ambiguous wording before ordering. A report for a similar product leaves a question to resolve: use our test report coverage guide to compare the evidence with the configuration being purchased.
Agree factory and site inspection hold points
Before placing the order, ask whether the provider wants factory access, production records, sample checks or an inspection before shipment. Separately agree the site inspection stages before installation starts. For each hold point, record what must remain visible, who books the visit, the notice requested, the evidence to prepare and who confirms that work can continue.
Ask specifically about components that will be hidden by concrete, insulation, linings or backfill. Confirm whether photographs or remote review are acceptable for any stage and what they must show. Give the builder the agreed schedule and arrange access. Do not conceal affected work while an agreed inspection or release remains outstanding.
Make acceptance conditions part of the order
Before paying a deposit or releasing manufacture, check written technical acceptance, outstanding conditions and the inspection arrangements together. If further factory or site checks remain necessary, record when they happen and what outcome permits shipment or installation. Where acceptance is unresolved, hold the affected purchase rather than relying on later agreement.
Put the accepted manufacturer, product specification, document revisions and installation instructions into the order and inspection brief. Tell the factory to refer proposed substitutions for review before proceeding. On arrival, follow our goods-in acceptance guide, then check that the delivered identity and batch records match the accepted package before installation.

Close inspection findings and preserve the record
Keep a project register linking accepted evidence, delivered batches, installation locations, inspection reports, photographs and corrective work. Ask the provider how inspection findings are closed and which outstanding documents affect issuing the warranty. Obtain written confirmation of closure rather than assuming that a visit alone resolves the matter.
If the product, fixing, assembly or installation method changes, hold the affected work and request renewed review. If work has already been concealed, tell the provider what is hidden and ask what investigation it will accept; do not assume photographs will suffice. Retain the warranty correspondence alongside your product compliance file.
Frequently asked questions
Will my self-build warranty accept materials from China?
Ask the provider to review the exact product and intended installation. Obtain written acceptance, conditions and inspection arrangements before committing to the purchase.
Does building control approval mean warranty acceptance?
Keep the decisions separate. Ask the warranty provider to confirm its own acceptance and any conditions; do not infer that decision from building control correspondence.
Can I cover the work before the warranty inspection?
Keep work visible at agreed hold points until the inspection and release are resolved. If a visit cannot happen, ask the provider for written instructions before covering the work.
What if the factory changes an accepted material?
Hold affected manufacture or installation. Send the revised specification and evidence to the relevant reviewers and obtain renewed acceptance before proceeding.
