Order a mattress from China to fit a UK bed
Order against measured dimensions, not a size name. Record the usable bed space and base construction, agree finished mattress dimensions and acceptable limits, and obtain written approval before manufacture. Arrange checks after any agreed unpacking and recovery. Factory coordination can be handled by Cambridge China Bridge.

Measure the space where the mattress will sit
Remove the existing mattress and measure the usable length and width where the replacement will sit. Check at different positions and record the narrowest restrictions, including inward-projecting rails, corners and fittings. For a flat divan or platform, record the supporting surface instead. Attach photographs and a labelled sketch, state the units, and identify the bed so measurements cannot be confused with another frame.
Record the existing mattress dimensions as a comparison, rather than using them as the sole ordering specification. Note the recess depth and proposed mattress thickness, including how much mattress will sit above the rails. Check headboard clearance, bedding access and the delivery route. Treat names such as king or double as enquiry labels; ask the factory to quote against your written dimensions.
Confirm compatibility with the actual base
Describe whether the base has solid decking, rigid slats, sprung slats or an upholstered sprung surface. For slats, record their width, the clear gaps between them, their condition and any centre support. Photograph the support arrangement. For an adjustable bed, identify the mechanism and movements, and ask the mattress maker to confirm suitability for that specific base.
Send this information with the proposed mattress construction and ask the factory to confirm compatibility in writing, including support and ventilation conditions. Obtain any permitted slat-gap limit from the mattress maker rather than choosing a generic figure. Ask what base changes, if any, are needed and whether the proposed arrangement affects the supplier's warranty. Settle those changes before approving the mattress.
Agree finished dimensions and acceptance limits
Keep the bed measurements separate from the finished mattress dimensions. Ask the factory to propose the clearance needed for placement, bedding and removal, then have the person checking fit approve it. Specify overall finished length, width and thickness, including the cover and edge treatment. Record the smallest and largest acceptable finished dimensions for each, using the product specification guide for the document structure.
Ask the factory to show that the largest permitted mattress fits the tightest measured space and that the smallest permitted mattress leaves an acceptable gap. Agree how rounded corners, piping and a quilted top are measured, the supporting surface and whether measurement is unloaded. For compressed packing, specify the unpacking method, recovery conditions and point at which final dimensions are checked. Put unresolved limits on hold.
Approve the mattress specification before manufacture
Collect the bed survey, base photographs, finished dimensions, acceptance limits, mattress construction and measurement method into an identified revision. Ask the buyer's fit reviewer to approve the proposed fit and base arrangement, and the factory to acknowledge that it can manufacture to the agreed limits. Use the translated drawing approval guide when the production documents use another language.
Give explicit written authority to manufacture that revision. Keep comfort or appearance approval separate from dimensional fit approval. For an unfamiliar construction or tight fit, arrange a sample trial on the actual base before releasing the remaining order. Agree responsibility and remedies for inaccurate bed measurements, incorrect allowances and manufacture outside the approved limits. Require fresh approval if the dimensions, construction or packing method change.

Check the finished mattress against the approval
Before dispatch, request a measurement report tied to the mattress identifier and approved revision, with photographs showing the measurement points and results. Use the factory measurement guide to brief the inspector. If the mattress is compressed for shipping, agree a check after representative packing, unpacking and recovery; a carton measurement or an uncompressed factory reading alone does not answer the recovered-size question.
Record whether each result falls within the approved limits and resolve discrepancies before release. After delivery, repeat the agreed recovery and measurement procedure, then check placement on the actual base without forcing the mattress into the frame. Keep the results and photographs. Discuss intended use and product-safety evidence separately, using the mattress sourcing guide. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can coordinate factory checks against the approved pack.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a Chinese king mattress for a UK king bed?
Use the bed's measured usable space and agreed finished mattress dimensions. Ask the factory to confirm length, width, thickness and acceptance limits rather than approving the word king.
Should I measure my mattress or my bed frame?
Measure the usable bed space or supporting surface first. Record the existing mattress as a comparison, then agree finished dimensions and clearance with the factory and the person checking fit.
Will a mattress from China work on my slatted base?
Send the factory the slat widths, clear gaps, centre support and photographs. Obtain written compatibility confirmation for the proposed mattress construction and any conditions affecting its warranty.
What mattress size tolerance should I accept?
Agree minimum and maximum finished dimensions that work with your measured bed. Define how and when they are checked, including recovery after compressed packing. Hold manufacture until those limits are approved.
