Do not order until the exact product, controlled-cannabinoid content, food or medicine status and postal import route are resolved. Personal use and a seller’s THC-free claim do not settle these checks. Ask for batch evidence and independent UK advice before dispatch. Identify the actual product and parcel
Ask for photographs of the complete label, the full formulation, cannabinoid specification, batch identification and retail container size. Save the seller’s listing and any treatment claims. Explain whether the oil is swallowed or applied to skin, and whether the gummies are solely for your own consumption. Record the delivery destination and proposed postal or courier route.
Ask what supports claims such as THC-free, legal or full spectrum. Request evidence for the finished batch and packaging you would receive. A report for the raw extract or a different bottle leaves your proposed purchase unresolved.
Check controlled cannabinoids and the exemption
Pure isolated CBD is not controlled under UK drugs legislation, but that does not settle the status of a finished oil or gummy. Products containing controlled cannabinoids require a separate assessment. Home Office guidance says importing such products requires an import licence unless the exempt-product definition applies.
Have an independent UK legal adviser assess the complete exempt-product definition: the product’s purpose, whether the controlled drug can be recovered, and its quantity in each component part. All conditions must be met. The Home Office treats the container, such as a bottle of oil, as the unit for the quantity limit, rather than the suggested dose. Ask specifically how your gummy packaging should be assessed.
Check what the laboratory actually tested
Home Office guidance calls for sufficiently sensitive analysis by a laboratory accredited for the analytical methods used when demonstrating compliance with the exemption’s quantity condition. Ask the laboratory to explain which controlled cannabinoids it tested, its detection limits and how the results relate to the complete retail container.
Treat not detected as a result to interpret with the laboratory, rather than proof of absolute absence. Verify the report directly with its issuer, match the sample and batch to your goods, and check the laboratory’s accreditation scope. Resolve food or medicine classification separately
MHRA says CBD products used for medical purposes are medicines, and medicinal claims can bring a product within the medicine definition. Send the label, formulation, intended use and advertising to MHRA if classification is unclear. For treatment, consult a UK pharmacist or prescriber and use our personal medicine imports guide. Before arranging overseas postage of a medicine containing controlled drugs, ask the Home Office to confirm whether the proposed personal import is permitted.
CBD foods require novel food authorisation before legal sale. The food application list applies to England and Wales; appearing on it is not authorisation. Resolve permissions before any dispatch
