Can trial cartons be inspected at a China warehouse?
Yes, if the warehouse permits carton opening, gives the inspector access to the complete identified lot and has suitable facilities for the agreed checks. Factory process checks still need a factory visit, and dispatch should stay on hold until you review the report. Coordinate the arrangements with Cambridge China Bridge.

Confirm access before moving the goods
Send the inspection brief to the warehouse and inspector before the factory dispatches. Obtain written confirmation that your chosen inspector can enter, photograph goods, open selected cartons, remove inner packaging and handle products. Agree who will move stacked cartons, provide a clear work area and repack opened goods. A receiving service that counts sealed boxes does not necessarily offer these facilities.
Check lighting, power, assembly space and any equipment needed for the agreed tests. Confirm restrictions on destructive checks and taking samples away. Ask who pays for handling, repacking and storage while results are reviewed. Use our China warehouse guide for the wider custody arrangements.
Identify the complete lot before selection
Give the inspector a carton-level list linking goods to the supplier, order, model, variant and production batch. Ask the warehouse to reconcile it against the goods physically present and show their locations. Keep other buyers’ stock, replacement units and factory display samples separate. If cartons are missing or identities conflict, resolve the inspection scope before selection.
A consolidated delivery can contain different inspection lots. Use defining inspection lots to agree their boundaries beforehand. Preserve original carton identifiers through inspection and repacking, with a recorded mapping for replacement labels. Our shipping marks guide covers the carton identification brief.
Let the inspector choose cartons and units
Require the inspector to select cartons and units independently from the complete presented lot under the agreed inspection plan. Warehouse staff can retrieve the selected cartons, but should not substitute convenient boxes or supply products already laid out by the factory. Ask the report to record selected carton identifiers, product variants and any access restrictions.
If selected cartons are inaccessible, move the stock or record the restriction and pause the affected checks. Do not quietly replace them with easier cartons. For a small trial, agree whether sampling or checking every unit better answers your risks; full inspection or sampling explains the limits. Separately record targeted checks and any samples removed for laboratory work.
Write down what the warehouse cannot establish
Compare the inspection brief with the facilities actually available. Finished goods may support appearance, dimensions, contents, labelling, assembly and agreed function checks. A warehouse visit cannot observe the original production process, verify line controls in operation or inspect concealed components without agreed opening. Tests needing factory fixtures, specialist equipment or operating conditions may require another location.
List omitted checks explicitly, with the evidence or visit needed to close each gap. Keep product safety evidence separate from ordinary quality acceptance. Consumer products should only be sold if compliance with product safety regulations has been demonstrated appropriately. A satisfactory appearance check alone does not settle that assessment.

Hold dispatch until you review the report
Before inspection, send the warehouse and freight coordinator a written hold covering the identified goods. Name the buyer authorised to release them and require acknowledgement. Suggested wording: “Keep these goods on hold. Do not hand them to a carrier until the named buyer has reviewed the inspection report and issued written release identifying the approved cartons.” A freight booking or inspector’s pass result should not automatically release stock.
Review lot coverage, defects, photographs, omitted checks and repacking records before deciding. For failures, agree where sorting or rework happens, who handles transport and costs, and how corrected goods will be checked again. Keep unresolved stock separate. Confirm that cartons presented for collection match the approved report and release instruction. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate these arrangements through its own staff in China.
Frequently asked questions
Can my trial order be inspected at a consolidation warehouse?
Yes, if the inspector can access the complete identified lot, open selected cartons and perform the agreed checks. Confirm facilities and restrictions before moving the goods.
Can the factory choose the inspection samples?
Ask the inspector to select independently from the presented lot. Factory-selected pieces can support a discussion, but should not replace independent selection for shipment acceptance.
What cannot be checked away from the factory?
The original production process and operating line controls cannot be observed at a warehouse. Concealed components and tests needing factory equipment require separately agreed arrangements.
Can the warehouse ship as soon as inspection passes?
Agree a written dispatch hold. Release only after the named buyer reviews the report, resolves blocking gaps and identifies the approved cartons in writing.
