How to approve cartons for ceramic gift sets

Approve a filled, assembled carton made with the intended board, print finish, window and insert. Check artwork across folds, the visible product position and marks after agreed handling. Keep a signed sample and packing photos for production comparison. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate these checks with its staff in China.

Approve the filled carton as a complete pack

Ask for a physical sample containing the actual ceramic set, with the intended board, print finish, window film and insert. Identify any sample materials or processes that differ from production, and leave those features pending. A flat print sheet cannot show how the filled box closes or presents the gift.

Record the artwork revision, carton cutting and folding drawing, insert version and product decoration together. Keep a signed reference pack with photographs showing it closed and open. Use the printed retail packaging guide for the wider enquiry and proof specification.

Check artwork after folding and closing

Stand the filled carton in its intended shelf position. Check the front, lid, sides and back, including graphics that cross corners. Look for interrupted borders, off-centre logos, text hidden by folds or glue seams, and a lid image facing the wrong way. Check again with the closure fully seated.

Separate print registration from cutting, folding and assembly alignment when marking faults. Photograph the affected panel straight on and mark the approved position on the drawing. Agree visible acceptance limits using physical examples. Use the factory artwork guide for artwork approval before this assembled-pack check.

Fix the window, insert and product orientation

Look through the window with the pack upright and resting naturally. Check that the intended decoration is visible and that handles, rims or lids do not obscure it. Inspect the window edge and film for lifting, wrinkles and contact with the ceramic. Check that the insert sits correctly without bowing the carton.

Photograph the loading sequence and final orientation of every item. Show which way decoration and handles face, where separators sit and how lids are held. Tilt and carry the closed pack, then reopen it to check movement, ceramic-to-ceramic contact and rubbing against cut edges. Ask the factory to repack from the instructions and compare the result.

Inspect scuffing after realistic handling

Agree a repeatable handling exercise that reflects packing, shelf stocking and customer opening. Record the actions and inspect the carton and ceramics before and afterwards under consistent lighting. Look for ink rub, dull patches, scratched window film, whitening at folds and marks on glaze or decoration. A fresh photograph alone does not show handling performance.

Check contact points to identify the cause before changing the finish or insert. Recheck the complete pack after any change. Agree acceptable cosmetic examples separately from breakage or loss of restraint. Use the distribution packaging guide to plan delivery checks; a handling exercise does not establish transit protection.

Carry the approval into production inspection

Write the approval as a record of the complete configuration, with photographs, agreed defect examples and any unresolved points. Keep matching reference packs with the buyer and factory. Require proposed changes to board, finish, window, insert or loading method to be submitted for approval before use.

Ask the inspection report to compare filled production packs with the reference, including appearance after the agreed handling exercise. Record deviations and the buyer's decision before release. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can coordinate samples and inspection evidence. For glaze, decoration and ceramic performance specifications, use the homeware guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I approve a ceramic gift box from a flat proof?

Use the flat proof for print review, then approve a filled, assembled sample. Folding, closure and product weight can change artwork alignment and the view through the window.

How do I stop mugs turning inside a window box?

Specify the displayed orientation and ask for an insert that holds it without damaging the ceramic. Carry and tilt the filled pack, then check whether the decoration still faces the window.

What if the gift carton scuffs during handling?

Record where marks appear and what touches that surface. Ask the factory to address the cause, then repeat the agreed handling exercise on the revised complete pack.

What should the factory keep as the approved sample?

Keep a signed, filled carton with the approved ceramics, window and insert, plus revision records, loading photographs and agreed defect examples. List unresolved features explicitly.
