Home treadmill and walking pad safety checks
Before use, confirm that you can stop the belt safely, resetting controls cannot cause unexpected movement, guards are intact, and children and pets cannot enter the operating area. Follow the exact model's clearance instructions and keep unresolved faults out of use. Ask Cambridge China Bridge to obtain model-specific checks from the factory.

Confirm the exact model and its instructions
Match the machine's label to its English manual, controller, remote and safety key where fitted. Ask whether it supports your intended use, including walking beneath a desk or running with the handrail raised. Obtain instructions for each permitted configuration. A similar-looking model's manual may describe different controls or safeguards.
Before shipment, ask for recorded checks on the actual configuration ordered, covering stopping, restart behaviour and guards. Use our quality inspection guide to brief the inspector. Our electrical imports guide covers the wider electrical documents and supply checks.
Check emergency stopping before exercising
Locate the normal stop control and the emergency stopping arrangement described in the manual. HSE's workplace machinery guidance recommends emergency stop controls within easy reach where necessary. For home use, check that your desk, screen or posture does not obstruct access. Do not assume a phone app or handheld remote provides the model's emergency stopping function.
Where a safety key and clip are supplied, attach the clip as instructed during use. Follow the manufacturer's checking procedure before exercising, with nobody on the moving belt and everyone clear of moving parts. Confirm that removing the key stops the belt as described. Do not test by deliberately falling or stepping off a moving belt. If stopping fails or is unclear, disconnect the machine and contact the supplier.
Ask what happens after a stop or power interruption
Ask the supplier to demonstrate that replacing the safety key, resetting an emergency control or restoring power does not start hazardous belt movement without a deliberate start command. Also ask what happens after a remote disconnects, an app reconnects or a paused programme resumes. Record the expected behaviour for the exact controller and operating mode.
Have a competent technician investigate any unexpected movement using the manufacturer's controlled procedure. Do not improvise power-interruption tests while someone is walking. Keep remotes protected from accidental button presses. If the belt starts unexpectedly, stop using the machine, disconnect it safely and retain the fault details for the supplier.
Check belt access and exclude children and pets
With the machine unplugged, inspect the rear roller area, belt edges, underside and motor cover for missing, loose or damaged guards. Ask the supplier how accessible trapping points are protected. Never probe gaps while the belt moves or bypass guards. Keep hair, loose clothing, cables and objects away from the belt. Before cleaning, retrieving objects or adjusting the belt, unplug it and wait for movement to stop.
Keep children and pets outside the room during operation, using a closed door or another reliable separation that preserves operating clearance. Supervision alone is a weak arrangement while you are exercising. Afterwards, unplug the machine and store its key and remote out of reach. An official JTX Fitness treadmill report warns of electric shock when a motor cover is removed without switching off at the mains; a stopped belt is no reason to open the cover.

Measure the operating area and decide whether to use it
Obtain the manufacturer's rear, side and overhead clearance instructions for the exact model and configuration. Measure the usable area with the desk, chair, doors and furniture in place. Keep the rear escape area free of walls, stored items and barriers that could trap someone leaving the belt. A footprint that fits beneath a desk does not establish safe operating space. If clearance instructions are missing, ask before use.
For floor loading and room suitability, follow our upstairs and garage equipment guide. Before each session, check that the belt area is clear, guards are secure and stopping controls are accessible. Leave the machine out of use if you cannot maintain clearance, exclude children and pets, or resolve a stopping or restart fault. Recheck the layout after moving the machine or changing furniture.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a walking pad without a safety key?
Check the exact model's stopping design and instructions. Some controls differ by configuration. If you cannot identify and safely reach an effective stopping arrangement, keep it out of use and ask the supplier.
Should my treadmill restart when I replace the key?
Replacing the key should not trigger hazardous belt movement without a deliberate start command. Ask the supplier to confirm the intended behaviour. If it moves unexpectedly, disconnect it safely and stop using it.
Is a walking pad safe around children or pets?
Keep children and pets outside the operating room. Do not rely on watching them while walking. Afterwards, unplug the machine and store the key and remote out of reach.
How much space should I leave behind a treadmill?
Use the exact model's rear clearance instructions and measure with furniture in place. Keep that area unobstructed. If the instructions are missing or the space is insufficient, ask the supplier before use.
