Shipping melamine kitchenware with refit goods
Consolidate only after confirming that the entry route handles controlled kitchenware. Notify the authority at least two working days before physical arrival, and plan kitchenware checks separately from furniture delivery and installation. Agree the packing and shipment split with Cambridge China Bridge.

Separate the controlled items before consolidating
For a hospitality order entering Great Britain, identify polyamide and melamine kitchenware originating in or consigned from China or Hong Kong before requesting freight quotes. These goods have specific import controls. Ask factories to confirm materials against the actual product list rather than relying on descriptions such as plastic utensils.
Keep a controlled-kitchenware list alongside the ordinary refit list, with matching carton references. Our kitchenware laboratory evidence guide covers declarations and testing; our hospitality sourcing guide covers the wider venue order. Use those checks alongside the route planning below.
Confirm the entry point before booking
The FSA guidance says the UK has designated specific border control posts for this kitchenware. Ask the forwarder to identify the actual first point of introduction and obtain confirmation from its competent authority that the proposed route can handle your controlled goods. A freight quote naming a destination warehouse does not answer that question.
Give the authority the material list, origin, dispatch location and proposed transport route. Ask how documents are submitted, where checks occur and how cartons must be accessible. If suitability is unconfirmed, revise the route or ship the kitchenware separately before committing the mixed load.
Assign notification and document ownership
You must pre-notify the competent authority at the first point of introduction at least two working days before the estimated date and time of physical arrival. Each controlled consignment needs a declaration and laboratory report confirming compliance with the relevant chemical-release requirements.
Name who submits the notification, who checks receipt and who updates the authority if the arrival estimate changes. Ask the authority how to handle amendments. Match product descriptions and carton references across the declaration, laboratory report and packing list; retain the submission record with the shipment file.
Plan separate delivery dependencies
The guidance provides for documentary checks and identity and physical checks, including laboratory sampling of selected consignments. Treat the kitchenware delivery date as dependent on its control process. Do not book furniture installation on the assumption that every item in a mixed shipment will become available together.
Ask the forwarder whether ordinary refit goods could be delivered separately if kitchenware checks remain outstanding, and what authority decisions and unloading arrangements that would depend on. Separately labelled cartons help identification but do not guarantee separate delivery. If the opening programme cannot tolerate that dependency, compare separate shipments before loading.

Approve a workable consolidation brief
Record the confirmed entry route, authority contact, notification owner, document owner, packing arrangement and delivery dependencies in the booking brief. Ask for storage, examination handling, unloading and onward-delivery costs to be identified. The guidance says import-control fees are payable to the relevant authority where those controls apply.
Set a clear booking condition: unresolved route suitability or missing kitchenware documents means the shipment plan needs review. Cambridge China Bridge can use its staff in China to coordinate factory readiness and packing through our consolidation service, while you agree the entry and delivery plan with the forwarder.
Frequently asked questions
Can melamine kitchenware share a container with furniture?
Plan it only after confirming a suitable entry route, the kitchenware documents and access for checks. Ask whether furniture delivery would depend on the kitchenware control process.
How early must I notify kitchenware imports?
At least two working days before the estimated date and time of physical arrival, to the competent authority at the first point of introduction.
Can I use any port for melamine kitchenware?
The guidance identifies specific designated border control posts. Confirm suitability with the authority at the proposed entry point before booking.
Will my furniture arrive if kitchenware is held?
Do not assume it will. Ask the forwarder about separate delivery and its dependencies before loading. If installation cannot wait, consider shipping the kitchenware separately.
