Buying lighting trusses and speaker suspension
Before paying a deposit, obtain load tables for the exact layout, written connector compatibility, a competent rigging review, secondary-retention details and an inspection plan. Keep purchase approval separate from permission to suspend equipment over people. Factory evidence can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Appoint the rigging reviewer before choosing equipment
Appoint a competent specialist with experience of entertainment rigging and suspended speakers. Give them the venue drawings, proposed equipment, audience areas and installation method. Ask them to identify the applicable lifting and work-equipment duties and the evidence needed for acceptance. Our club equipment guide covers purchasing authority, venue conditions and insurance.
HSE says lifting operations involving lifting equipment must be competently planned, appropriately supervised and carried out safely. Obtain the reviewer's written acceptance of the proposed arrangement, recording assumptions, restrictions and outstanding conditions. Ask a structural specialist to verify building support points where their capacity is unproven.
Obtain load tables for the actual configuration
Request manufacturer-issued load tables and supporting calculations identifying the exact truss series, section orientation, span, support positions, joints, corners and any cantilevers. Ask whether each table covers distributed loads, concentrated loads or both, and what deflection and loading assumptions apply. Our lighting truss sourcing guide supports the factory specification.
Give the reviewer a drawing locating every speaker, lighting fixture, cable and accessory, including the truss's own weight. Request support reactions and confirmation that the proposed load positions are covered. For speaker arrays, obtain limits for the actual cabinet combination, suspension frame, angles and attachment points. A catalogue headline capacity cannot establish acceptance of this layout.
Prove connector and suspension compatibility
Obtain an identified parts list covering couplers, pins, locking parts, clamps, shackles, slings and speaker suspension hardware. Request drawings, material specifications, ratings and installation instructions for the supplied parts. Ask the manufacturers to confirm compatibility with your existing truss or speaker cabinets in writing. Similar dimensions and a successful trial fit leave strength and locking behaviour unproven.
For speakers, request evidence that the cabinet attachment points and internal load path were designed for the proposed suspension. Have the reviewer check load direction, sling angles, clamp positions and locking arrangements. Match test reports to the actual models, parts and document revisions using our test report verification guide. Freeze the accepted components and require written review of substitutions.
Document secondary retention as a complete arrangement
HSE guidance says suspended equipment, including lighting bars and amplification equipment, should not rely solely on a suspension cable, clamp or bolt. Ask for a secondary-retention drawing identifying the safety wire or chain, end fittings and independent attachment points on the equipment and supporting structure.
Have the reviewer confirm that the retention arrangement suits the equipment, attachment points and possible arrest load. Request installation instructions covering routing, slack and interference with moving parts. Do not improvise with electrical cables or carrying handles. For speaker arrays, ask the specialist and manufacturer to agree the retention arrangement for the complete assembly.
Agree inspection and withdrawal arrangements
Before ordering, obtain inspection and maintenance instructions with acceptance and rejection criteria for welds, distortion, corrosion, pins, locks, slings and cabinet suspension points. HSE says the need, nature and frequency of inspections should follow risk assessment and manufacturer recommendations. HSE also says thorough examinations must be undertaken by a competent person.
Ask the reviewer to identify any required examination before first use, after installation or relocation, and during service. Agree named inspectors, records, equipment identifiers and checks before each setup. Specify who quarantines damaged equipment and who authorises its return. Budget for access, dismantling and specialist examinations; a factory inspection cannot establish the condition of a later venue installation.

Release the order against an accepted evidence pack
As a purchasing checkpoint, hold the deposit until the reviewer accepts the specified configuration and evidence plan. Before dispatch, reconcile supplied component identifiers, drawings, load tables, instructions and inspection findings with that accepted specification. Resolve missing documents and substitutions through the named approver. Our shipment release guide explains how to record separate releases.
Arrange a controlled installation check before allowing people beneath the equipment. Keep the approved layout, installation record, inspection plan and restrictions available to whoever sets it up next. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can collect factory evidence and check supplied details against the order. Acceptance of the rigging design and installed arrangement remains with the appointed specialists and venue decision-makers.
Frequently asked questions
Is a truss load certificate enough?
Ask for load tables and supporting evidence covering the exact span, supports, joints and load positions. Have the rigging reviewer confirm that your proposed layout falls within those limits.
Can I mix Chinese truss with our existing connectors?
Obtain written compatibility evidence for the exact truss and connector models. Have the reviewer check strength, locking and permitted loading. Matching dimensions or a trial fit alone is insufficient.
Do suspended speakers need secondary retention?
HSE guidance says suspended amplification equipment should not rely solely on a suspension cable, clamp or bolt. Ask the specialist to accept the complete retention arrangement and its attachment points.
Who should inspect imported rigging equipment?
Agree competent inspectors and a written inspection plan before buying. Have the specialist identify examination requirements, checks before setup, rejection criteria and who may authorise reuse after a fault.
