China-bought item recalled in the UK: what to do
Stop using the item while you check its model, batch and serial details against the recall notice. Contact the named recall organiser and your seller, supply the purchase records you have, and ask for written confirmation of eligibility and the remedy. For help tracing factory records, contact Cambridge China Bridge.

Match your item to the actual recall
Find the notice in the official UK product safety alerts, reports and recalls list. Check whether it describes a recall, another corrective action or only removal of an online listing. The list excludes food and drink, vehicles, medicines and medical devices; use the relevant official recall service for those products.
Compare the brand, full model identifier, batch, serial number, barcode and any stated production or sale dates. Photograph the item and its labels, including supplied accessories. Similar appearance alone is a weak match. If a label is missing or a code differs, send photographs to the recall organiser and ask for written confirmation rather than assuming your item is unaffected.
Stop use while the match is checked
Stop using a potentially affected item while you seek clarification. Follow the notice's instructions for disconnection, storage and return. Do not test it to reproduce the fault, attempt a repair or send it by ordinary post without checking the return arrangements. Keep labels and packaging available for identification.
For equipment used by your business, mark it as awaiting a recall check and tell colleagues who might use it. Keep a record of where it is stored and who is handling the enquiry. If you have supplied affected goods to customers, use our importer recall guide for the wider response.
Identify the seller and the recall organiser
Retrieve the order confirmation, invoice and marketplace order history. Record the contracting seller's name separately from the marketplace, delivery company and factory. Send the seller the recall notice reference and your product photographs. Also contact the business named in the notice to establish who is administering the remedy.
If a sourcing company arranged the purchase, establish whether it sold the goods or acted as your agent. Our seller or agent guide explains that distinction. Ask for help retrieving the order and factory batch records, but obtain a named contact who will confirm whether your particular item qualifies for the recall action.
Build a claim with incomplete purchase evidence
Do not abandon the enquiry because the receipt is missing. Collect order emails, payment records, delivery messages, packaging and registration details. Ask the seller to search its records using your account, delivery address and approximate purchase date. Explain which details are uncertain; do not guess a batch code or purchase date.
Official consumer returns guidance recognises evidence such as a bank statement or packaging alongside a receipt. For your business purchase, ask the recall organiser what evidence it accepts for this particular programme. Separate proof that the item is affected from proof of who sold it, and ask what alternative identification is possible if it was bought directly from China or acquired second-hand.

Confirm the remedy before handing over the item
Official guidance says a product recall may offer a free replacement, repair or refund through the manufacturer or retailer. Read the actual notice rather than assuming a refund is available. Ask for written confirmation of eligibility, the proposed remedy, collection or return arrangements, any costs and how completion will be recorded. For separate warranty and commercial claims, see our UK seller supply terms guide.
If help is refused, request the reason in writing: an unmatched model, missing purchase evidence or a purchase outside the programme calls for different follow-up. Keep the item out of use while the safety question remains unresolved. Retain correspondence and photographs; ask the organiser to explain any disposal instruction before destroying the item or its identifying labels.
Frequently asked questions
Is my item recalled if it looks the same?
Appearance alone is insufficient. Compare the full model, batch, serial number and other identifiers in the notice. If details are missing, send photographs to the recall organiser and ask it to confirm.
Can I ask for a recall remedy without a receipt?
Yes, ask what evidence the programme accepts. Offer order emails, payment records, packaging and product labels. A missing receipt does not establish whether your item qualifies.
Who do I contact if I bought through a marketplace?
Contact the seller identified in your order and the recall organiser named in the notice. Ask marketplace support to help retrieve seller details or purchase records if needed.
Does a UK recall guarantee me a refund?
Check the notice. Official guidance says recalls may offer a free repair, replacement or refund. Ask the organiser to confirm the remedy and whether your item and purchase qualify.
