How to check an amended or reissued test report
Ask the issuing laboratory to confirm the revision, explain every change and identify which earlier report it replaces. Compare results and sample details, then review purchasing approvals that relied on the changed evidence before releasing affected goods. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate this review with its staff in China.

Confirm the revision with the issuing laboratory
Obtain the complete revised report and the earlier copy used for approval. Contact the laboratory through independently checked contact details. Ask it to confirm the report reference, revision identifier, issue date, reason for amendment and whether the document replaces the whole report or supplements it. If client permission is needed, ask the supplier to authorise confirmation.
Request written confirmation identifying the valid documents and any withdrawn copies. A supplier's explanation or a changed filename is insufficient for your revision review. Use the test report verification guide for the underlying authenticity checks.
Compare the changes and their consequences
Build a change record showing the previous wording or result, its replacement, the laboratory's explanation and the purchasing decision affected. Compare measured results, units, limits, pass or fail conclusions, methods, test dates, exclusions and remarks. Ask whether the change corrects transcription, recalculates existing data or reports additional testing.
Treat a correction that changes a failure to a pass as a reason to investigate the underlying records. Ask the laboratory to explain the basis and whether other conclusions are affected. Do not assume that a newer issue date means a new test took place.
Check whether the sample identity has changed
Compare model references, photographs, labels, materials, components, firmware, colours, sizes and sample receipt details. Ask why any identity field changed and what contemporaneous records support the correction. A renamed sample needs a documented connection to the goods you are buying.
If the revision describes a different configuration or a replacement sample, ask the laboratory which results apply to which sample. Resolve coverage before relying on the report for production approval. Use the report coverage guide and the sample chain of custody guide for those separate checks.
Control superseded copies without losing history
Retain the earlier report as historical evidence and mark its status clearly. Record the replacement reference, reason, confirmation and date received. If the laboratory issued a supplement, keep it linked to the report it modifies rather than treating it as a standalone replacement.
Update the working compliance pack, shared folders and instructions used by the factory, inspector and purchasing team. Tell recipients which copy to use and request acknowledgement from anyone who relied on the old version. The compliance file guide covers the wider document pack.

Revisit decisions made using the earlier report
Trace the old report to sample acceptance, order placement, production release, inspection acceptance, shipment release and customer submissions. Ask each decision owner whether the revision changes the basis of their approval. Record either renewed approval with reasons or a hold pending clarification, corrective work or further testing. A spelling correction may leave approval intact; a changed result or sample identity needs a substantive review.
Where the revision raises a safety concern, pause release of affected goods and assess stock already supplied with a competent product safety adviser. Official guidance says products should only be sold once compliance with product safety regulations has been appropriately demonstrated. Record affected orders, the assessment and the action agreed before closing the review.
Frequently asked questions
Does a reissued test report mean the product was retested?
Do not assume so. Ask the laboratory whether it corrected existing information, recalculated results or tested another sample, and request the supporting explanation.
Can I accept an amended report sent by the supplier?
Use it as the starting document. Confirm the revision directly with the issuing laboratory through independently checked contact details before relying on changed evidence.
Should I delete the superseded test report?
Keep it as historical evidence, clearly marked as superseded. Link it to the replacement or supplement and remove it from the pack used for current decisions.
Do I need to approve the purchase again?
Review approvals that relied on the changed information. Record why each remains valid or what further evidence is needed before the affected order proceeds.
