Does cancelling goods cancel fitting and warranties?
Yes, if you validly cancel under the applicable UK distance or off-premises cancellation rules and the extra agreement is an ancillary contract. Independently booked services need their own cancellation check. Send the seller a clear notice and contact each provider. Ask Cambridge China Bridge to help identify the order documents.

Confirm the personal order can be cancelled
This guide concerns purchases made by an individual wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft or profession. If you normally buy stock for your business but this order is for your home, keep the personal purpose clear in your correspondence. Start with our personal-order cancellation guide to check the seller, ordering method and any bespoke-goods exception.
Automatic termination of ancillary contracts follows a valid exercise of the applicable distance or off-premises cancellation right. If you are instead asking the seller to accept a cancellation outside that right, ask it to confirm separately what happens to fitting, maintenance and warranty agreements. Do not assume an agreed goods refund settles every related booking.
Identify an ancillary contract
An ancillary contract supplies goods or services related to the main purchase, through the seller itself or another provider under an arrangement with that seller. A separate fitting agreement, maintenance plan or extended warranty offered through the seller may qualify. A different provider name or separate payment does not by itself answer the question.
Gather the checkout confirmation, accepted quote, service terms and payment records. Ask who offered the extra agreement and whether the seller arranged its supply with the provider. Request a written explanation if the seller or provider says it is independent. For identifying the warranty provider and distinguishing insurance from a service plan, use our extended-warranty guide.
Separate bundled fitting from independent bookings
Supply and fitting can be parts of the same sales contract rather than separate ancillary contracts. Check whether the seller promised to supply and fit the item under the accepted agreement. Ask it to identify the cancelled scope and explain any installation charge, rather than treating the fitter's involvement as proof of a separate contract.
A warranty bought independently from another trader is not ancillary to the goods purchase. Apply the same arrangement check to an installer or maintenance provider you found yourself. Independently booked agreements need their own cancellation assessment. Ask a consumer adviser to confirm the applicable service cancellation period and when it starts. See our cancellation-period guide.
Notify the seller and contact each provider
Send the goods seller a clear cancellation statement with your order reference. For example: “I am cancelling my personal goods order [reference]. The related agreements are [details]. Please confirm which are ancillary contracts and notify the relevant providers.” When cancellation terminates an ancillary contract, the seller must inform the other trader concerned.
As a practical safeguard, send each fitting, maintenance or warranty provider a copy and request confirmation that appointments and future collections have stopped. For an independent agreement, give that provider its own clear cancellation notice where you are exercising an applicable right, or request an agreed cancellation. Keep the notices, sending records and replies together; do not rely on cancelling a payment instruction as your notice.

Check work already supplied and close the records
Ask a consumer adviser whether cancelling leaves anything payable for services already supplied. For a service started during the cancellation period, ask the adviser whether a proportionate charge is permitted and how any express request for an early start and the cancellation and cost information provided affect that assessment. Ask for the request, information and work record before accepting a charge.
Request an itemised account for the goods and each extra agreement, showing payments, proposed deductions, refunds and any remaining obligation. Ask whoever took each payment to identify who will process the refund. For a fully completed separate service, check the early-start request and acknowledgement of losing cancellation rights. If a provider disputes termination, ask it to identify the contract, cancellation rule and evidence it relies on.
Frequently asked questions
Does cancelling my order cancel its extended warranty?
An ancillary warranty ends automatically when you validly exercise the applicable cancellation right for the main purchase. A warranty you bought independently needs its own cancellation check.
Does a separate fitting invoice mean it stays payable?
The invoice alone does not settle it. Check whether fitting belongs to the sales contract, is an ancillary agreement arranged through the seller, or was independently booked. Ask for the basis of any charge.
Must I contact the warranty company myself?
The seller must notify the other trader when an ancillary contract terminates through cancellation. Sending your own copy and requesting confirmation is a useful safeguard.
Can the installer charge for work already done?
Ask a consumer adviser whether a proportionate charge is permitted for a service started during the cancellation period, taking into account any express request for an early start and the information you received. Ask for supporting records.
