Getting started

Buying teeth-whitening kits from China

Before ordering, have a UK dentist review the kit and obtain the full formula and batch tests. Direct consumer supply is limited to 0.1% hydrogen peroxide present or released; stronger cosmetic whitening products need a dental supply route. Factory evidence can be gathered by the China-based staff of Cambridge China Bridge.

Start with a UK dentist's assessment

Before committing to stock, ask a UK dentist to review the proposed formula, tray design, instructions and intended users. Ask about sensitivity, gum contact, existing dental work and realistic results. This product review does not replace examining the person who will use it. For products in the dental supply band, official guidance requires a clinical examination before use.

If you intend to try a sample yourself, arrange your own dental assessment before applying it. Send the dentist the complete ingredient information and proposed application instructions. Keep the dentist's clinical advice separate from the cosmetic safety assessment covered in our cosmetics sourcing guide.

Check the formula and the concentration being measured

Request the full quantitative formula, naming every whitening agent and its concentration in the preparation as used. Ask the laboratory to establish hydrogen peroxide present or released, including any released by the ingredients. If the supplier lists carbamide peroxide, ask for its concentration and the resulting hydrogen peroxide assessment separately; do not compare unlike ingredient percentages.

Ask for a report identifying the actual formula, sample, batch, test method and result. Agree how production samples will be selected independently and how concentration and stability will be checked through the claimed shelf life. Reconcile the report with the approved formula and pack using our test report verification guide.

Choose a lawful UK supply route before ordering

For direct consumer supply, whitening products must contain or release no more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide. Above 0.1% and up to 6%, they can only be sold to dental practitioners. Cosmetic tooth-whitening products containing or releasing more than 6% are prohibited. A seller calling a kit professional does not resolve these restrictions.

For the dental supply band, the first use in each cycle must be by a dental practitioner or under their direct supervision. Afterwards, the product may be given to the consumer to complete that cycle. Ask your intended dental customer to confirm the supply and treatment arrangements before you buy; do not plan ordinary online consumer sales for this band.

Challenge claims that hide missing evidence

Treat peroxide-free, dentist-approved, safe for everyone, no sensitivity and guaranteed whitening as prompts for further questions. Ask which ingredient does the whitening, what each claim means and what evidence supports it for the exact formula and instructions. For dentist-approved, request the reviewer's identity, qualifications, written assessment and scope of review.

Hold the order if the seller will not disclose concentrations, supplies a report for another formula, changes the gel after sample approval or offers a stronger consumer kit without addressing the UK supply restrictions. Ask for comparable, unedited evidence behind before-and-after photographs. A light, certificate or overseas sales history should not replace formula-specific evidence.

Approve the complete kit and control production changes

Assess the gel, tray, applicator, packaging and any powered light together. Ask the dentist about tray fit and leakage, and ask a suitable product specialist to review any powered component separately. Check seals, dispensing, storage instructions and consistency between the box, leaflet and proposed online listing.

Record the approved formula, component list, artwork and release checks in the order. Require written approval before substitutions or reformulation, retain production samples and connect them to batch records. Use our factory audit checklist for manufacturing capability checks. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can gather factory records and coordinate agreed sampling and inspections.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell a China-made whitening kit online in the UK?

For direct consumer sale, hydrogen peroxide present or released must not exceed 0.1%. That limit alone does not establish compliance: review the formula, safety file, labels and claims before ordering.

Can I sell a 6% whitening kit directly to customers?

No. This strength is restricted to sale to dental practitioners. First use in each cycle must be by a practitioner or under their direct supervision before the consumer completes that cycle.

Does peroxide-free mean a whitening kit is safe?

Do not infer safety from that phrase. Obtain the complete formula, identify the whitening agent and ask for safety and performance evidence matching the actual product and instructions.

What should a UK dentist check before I order?

Ask for a review of the formula, application instructions, tray fit, gum contact, sensitivity concerns and expected results. A product review does not replace an individual user's dental examination.
