Garden pool kits from China: approvals and checks
Before ordering, ask your council to assess the pool and associated works, and have UK installers review excavation, drainage, electrics and access protection. Agree who obtains approvals, tests the installation and supplies handover records. Give the agreed factory specification to Cambridge China Bridge.

Get a site-specific permissions check
Send the local planning authority a site plan showing the permanent pool, excavation, finished ground levels, decking, enclosure and equipment housing. Ask whether the complete proposal qualifies as permitted development or needs a planning application. Government guidance advises seeking the authority's advice where permitted development is uncertain. Obtain a written response before committing to the kit.
Ask building control separately which parts of the proposed installation need approval and what inspection stages to arrange. Highlight nearby buildings, boundaries, trees and any heritage designation. For sites in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, ask the local authority and relevant environmental regulator to confirm the approval route for that location.
Have the ground and excavation reviewed
Ask a pool installer and, where appropriate, a structural or ground specialist to review soil, groundwater, nearby foundations and the shell's support requirements. Match their design to the factory's base, backfill and empty-pool instructions. Agree excavation support, groundwater management, spoil removal and inspection responsibilities before ordering.
HSE guidance says buried-service plans or equivalent information should be obtained and reviewed before excavation starts. Ask the contractor to combine those records with service detection and a safe digging method. Check the route for excavators, delivery vehicles and lifting equipment, including overhead obstructions and space to unload the shell.
Agree where each water discharge goes
Draw separate routes for garden rainwater, excavation water, pool emptying and filter backwash. Environment Agency guidance for England favours discharge to the public foul sewer whenever reasonable. Ask the sewerage company to confirm whether it will accept the proposed pool discharge, its conditions and any connection work before choosing the filter system.
If a proposed route leads to a soakaway, watercourse or surface-water drain, ask the environmental regulator to assess it and confirm any permit needed. Give it the treatment chemicals, discharge characteristics and proposed outlet. Do not assume that a nearby drain or an existing septic system is suitable. Record the accepted route in the installation drawings.
Approve the electrical package with your installer
Give a UK electrician experienced in pool installations the exact pump, heater, lighting and control specifications before purchase. Ask them to review supply capacity, circuit design, equipment positions, earthing, bonding, residual-current protection and isolation. Agree who handles any notification or certification needed before electrical work starts.
Request model-specific wiring diagrams, English instructions and test evidence matching the supplied equipment. Use our waterproof electronics guide when assessing enclosure claims. Agree inspection and testing before use, and retain the results. England's electrical guidance says inspection and test forms should be given to the person ordering the work.
Design access protection before choosing the kit
HSE guidance calls for substantial barriers at excavation edges where people could fall. Agree how the contractor will secure the work area, keep children and visitors away, and maintain safe access while the shell is installed. Include protection during delivery and any period when work is unattended.
For the finished pool, ask the installer to propose child-resistant access, gates, suitable covers and safe poolside surfaces. Check the cover's stated purpose and supporting evidence, particularly whether it is intended as safety protection. Review suction entrapment protection, safe entry and exit, and emergency equipment. Keep barriers and supervision in the operating plan rather than relying solely on a cover.

Release the order against an agreed installation pack
Attach the reviewed drawings, equipment schedule, connection details, installation instructions and division of responsibilities to the order. Define what the factory supplies and what UK contractors provide. Use our product specification guide to control the approved version. Hold the order if the shell or equipment differs from the design your installers reviewed.
Agree handover checks covering leaks, circulation, controls, electrical test results and access protection before use. Name who resolves failed checks and retain photographs of buried connections. Our spare parts guide covers ongoing support. Cambridge China Bridge's own staff in China can coordinate factory documents and inspection against the agreed purchasing specification.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for a garden pool?
Ask your local planning authority to assess the actual pool and associated works. Send drawings covering excavation, levels, decking, enclosure and equipment housing before committing to the order.
Can I drain pool water into a garden drain?
Do not assume the drain is suitable. Identify its destination and ask the sewerage company or environmental regulator to confirm the route, discharge conditions and any approval needed.
Will a factory electrical certificate cover installation?
Have your UK electrician review the exact equipment and installation design. Obtain the site inspection and test records as well as the factory's model-specific documents.
What should I approve before paying for a pool kit?
Approve the permissions route, ground design, drainage outlet, electrical package, delivery access and pool access protection. Attach the reviewed drawings and responsibility schedule to the order.
