Buying a scaffold tower from China for home use
Before buying, match the complete component list and assembly manual to the exact tower configuration. Have a competent tower specialist review erection, ground conditions and intended loads, and obtain the contractor's acceptance before ordering. Factory documents and packing checks can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Define the job and who will use the tower
Describe the home project before requesting a quote: work location, required platform position, working reach, access route, available footprint and intended tools and materials. Distinguish platform height from advertised working height. Tell your adviser whether the tower is for private household use, business work or a contractor. Our own-use import guide covers the wider import questions.
Send this brief to the intended contractor or a competent tower specialist before choosing a model. Ask whether a tower suits the task, including any proposed access onto a roof. Obtain their written acceptance conditions and identify who will erect, inspect, use and dismantle it. A supplier's assurance that it suits home projects does not answer these site questions.
Reconcile the complete component inventory
Request an illustrated parts list for the exact model, platform height and configuration being quoted. Record each part's identifier, quantity, dimensions and carton location. Use the checklist below to question the supplier, then reconcile it against the manufacturer's complete inventory. Separate essential components from optional accessories and confirm what the quoted package actually includes.
Ask the factory to lay out and photograph the reserved kit against that inventory. Check frames, welds, platforms, locks and connections for visible damage and correct fit. Require written approval for substitutions and keep incompatible parts out of the kit. A packing check establishes what is present; it cannot establish structural performance.
| Group | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Base and support | Castors or base plates, brakes, adjustable legs and locking fittings |
| Structure | Frames, horizontal and diagonal braces, connectors, pins and retaining clips |
| Platforms and access | Working and intermediate platforms, trapdoors, access ladders or stairs and securing devices |
| Edge protection | Guardrails, end protection, toe boards and their fixings |
| Stability and erection | Specified stabilisers or outriggers, ties or ballast where required by the configuration, and temporary erection guardrails |
| Documents and identification | Model labels, component identification, assembly manual and configuration drawings |
Review the manual and safe erection arrangements
Obtain readable English instructions before payment, matched to the model and manual revision. Ask for the erection and dismantling sequence, platform positions, brace orientation, locking checks, stabiliser arrangements, permitted configurations and use limits. Compare every illustrated component with the quoted inventory. Our assembly instruction testing guide explains how to assess whether instructions can be followed.
HSE guidance says competence is needed to build, inspect, use and dismantle a tower. Ask your specialist to review how the specified method protects the assembler throughout erection and dismantling, including fitting guardrails before standing on a platform. Agree supervision, handling arrangements, a segregated assembly area and stop conditions. Do not ask an inexperienced homeowner to test an uncertain method at height.
Check the ground, footprint and intended loads
HSE guidance calls for a firm, level foundation and a scaffold capable of supporting its likely loads. Have the site assessed for soft ground, slopes, drains, voids, paving condition and support beneath each contact point. Check that the full stabiliser footprint fits without obstructing access. Obtain a specified support arrangement rather than improvising packing beneath the tower.
Ask for platform and whole-tower load limits, permitted occupancy and restrictions on uneven loading for the proposed configuration. Compare these with people, tools and materials together. Have the specialist review wind exposure, overhead hazards, reaching sideways, movement and any proposed sheeting, hoist or roof transfer. Use our test report verification guide to check that supporting reports identify the quoted configuration.

Secure inspection and contractor acceptance
HSE tower guidance requires inspection after assembly and at suitable regular intervals by a competent person. Before ordering, ask the proposed inspector to confirm competence for this tower type and specify the applicable inspection intervals and event-triggered rechecks in writing. Plan checks after changes, damage or adverse weather, and retain reports identifying the tower, configuration, defects and corrective action.
Give the contractor the inventory, manual, supporting reports and site assessment. Ask them to confirm whether they will accept this particular tower and what checks remain after delivery and erection. Make purchase approval conditional on resolving missing documents, components and acceptance objections. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can obtain factory documents and reconcile packing; UK site suitability and contractor acceptance still need their own review.
Frequently asked questions
What parts should come with a scaffold tower?
Get the manufacturer's complete inventory for the exact configuration, covering the base, frames, braces, platforms, access, edge protection, stability components and fixings. Reconcile it with the quote and packed kit.
Can I assemble a Chinese scaffold tower myself?
HSE guidance calls for competence to build, inspect, use and dismantle a tower. Have a tower specialist assess your training, the exact manual and the site before planning to assemble it yourself.
Does a scaffold tower certificate prove it is safe?
Treat it as supporting evidence. Check that it covers the exact model and configuration, then separately review the complete kit, manual, ground, loads, erection arrangements and inspection.
Will my builder use a scaffold tower I import?
Ask before ordering. Send the exact inventory, manual, reports and site details, and request written acceptance conditions. A factory packing check cannot determine whether your builder will accept it.
