Importing from China to Zimbabwe: CBCA checks
Start by checking Zimbabwe's Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment programme, which the ministry describes as pre-export verification. Confirm product coverage before ordering, then agree documents and your named seaport or border point. Your own broker confirms the final entry. Start with pre-export conformity
Zimbabwe's Ministry of Industry and Commerce describes its Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment programme as a pre-export verification of conformity programme. Before committing to a factory, ask your Zimbabwean customs broker to confirm whether your exact product falls within its current scope and which certificate, assessment provider and supporting reports to arrange.
Send the broker the product description, intended use, materials, model and proposed tariff classification. Get the assessment plan agreed before production and freight booking. The Tanzania guide explains a separate conformity process; use it to understand the questions to ask, then obtain Zimbabwe-specific answers.
Appoint your own Zimbabwean customs broker
ZIMRA states that the importer should have a Business Partner Number activated for Customs purposes. Its commercial guidance also describes registering a Bill of Entry in the customs system with supporting documents. Ask your broker to check your importer details and prepare the entry before the shipment reaches Zimbabwe.
Agree that your broker will confirm classification, valuation, applicable duties and taxes, any product-specific permits or labelling requirements, and the final entry. At arrival, the broker coordinates the declaration, assessment queries, payment arrangements and release with you. The overseas buying guide explains the wider division between our procurement work and your local clearance.
Agree the document pack before production
We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the Chinese factory, checking the seller, buyer, goods descriptions, quantities, package details and agreed delivery point against the order. Ask your broker to review drafts before dispatch, particularly where the UK seller and Chinese manufacturer appear on different documents.
Agree whether a certificate of origin is needed and arrange it where applicable. Obtain the factory's test reports for the actual model and specification ordered, then ask the assessment provider which reports it will accept. Keep the origin certificate, test reports and any shipment conformity certificate as distinct documents; do not assume a supplier's existing report completes the shipment file.
Check the supplier and the finished goods
Our staff in China check the supplier's identity, production address, manufacturing capability and proposed subcontracting against the order. We compare samples, specifications and available reports before production, then inspect the finished goods for agreed functions, materials, workmanship, quantities, packaging and artwork before shipment.
Record defects and agree corrective action before authorising dispatch. Ask the assessment provider separately what official conformity work is needed for this shipment. Our purchasing inspection checks your order against its specification. For the commercial arrangement, see buying through a UK company.

Name the seaport or border point in the quote
Zimbabwe is landlocked. We quote to the seaport or border point you name, with the onward leg agreed separately. State the precise handover location and delivery term, then ask for freight, insurance, terminal handling, transit arrangements, border clearance and inland delivery to be identified as included or excluded.
If you are comparing routes through South Africa or Tanzania, use our South Africa guide and the Tanzania guide linked above for orders destined for those markets. For Zimbabwe-bound cargo, have your forwarder and broker confirm the transit arrangements for the chosen corridor. Send us the product specification, quantity, destination point and broker's document checklist when requesting a quote.
