Importing from China to Côte d'Ivoire: conformity

Start with pre-shipment conformity: for goods covered by Côte d'Ivoire's programme, the process begins in the exporting country and Customs requires the conformity certificate for clearance. Confirm coverage with your own broker before ordering. Coordinate the China-side work through Cambridge China Bridge.

Settle conformity before the goods leave China

The Ministry of Commerce states that the pre-shipment conformity process begins in the exporting country. Customs states that only goods covered by a conformity certificate are authorised for clearance under the programme. For a Chinese factory order, make this a China-side planning task before booking shipment.

Send your broker the product description, materials, intended use, proposed tariff classification and order value. Ask for written confirmation of programme coverage and the applicable assessment route. Send that response to us before approving production so the factory can plan the documents, testing and inspection.

Agree a quote to your own port

Ask for a quote to your chosen port in Côte d'Ivoire, naming the port and agreed shipping term. Have the quote identify goods, freight, insurance where included, and the point where your costs begin. Ask your broker to estimate destination handling, clearance, duties, taxes and onward delivery separately.

You can buy through our UK company while our own staff in China coordinate the factory and shipment. Agree the seller, payment recipient and document responsibilities in writing. See buying through a UK company and the overseas buying guide for the wider arrangement.

Prepare the factory and shipment documents together

We coordinate the commercial invoice and packing list with the factory and the agreed seller. The invoice should reflect the actual sale; the packing list should identify carton contents, quantities, weights and marks. Send drafts to your broker so descriptions, parties and shipment details can be checked before dispatch.

Ask your broker whether a certificate of origin is needed for this entry; we arrange it with the exporter where required. The factory supplies available test reports, and we check their connection to the ordered model and materials. Agree any additional testing and keep the conformity certificate with the shipment file. A supplier's test report should not be treated as the programme certificate.

Check the supplier and inspect the actual order

Our China staff check the supplier's identity, production address, manufacturing capability and proposed subcontracting. We compare samples with your written specification and review whether the available reports describe the same product. Ask us to flag missing evidence before you commit to production.

Before shipment, we inspect agreed features such as workmanship, dimensions, function, quantities, packaging and label artwork against your approved requirements. Record defects, corrections and any reinspection before authorising dispatch. Keep this purchasing inspection separate from the official conformity process. Factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.

Give your own broker control of arrival clearance

Appoint your own customs broker in Côte d'Ivoire and agree a scope covering the declaration, classification and valuation review, document submission, duties and taxes, responses to customs queries and release coordination. Send the documents before arrival. Your broker confirms the final entry; a price to port does not itself settle destination clearance costs.

For orders serving neighbouring markets, keep separate destination instructions. Use the Ghana guide and Nigeria guide for those shipments, then give the Chinese factory a distinct document and packaging brief for your Côte d'Ivoire order.

Frequently asked questions

Do China imports to Côte d'Ivoire need conformity checks?

For goods covered by the programme, the conformity process begins in the exporting country and Customs requires the certificate for clearance. Ask your broker to confirm coverage before ordering.

Can you quote from China to my port in Côte d'Ivoire?

Yes. Name your destination port and agree the shipping term, freight and insurance scope. Ask your own broker to price destination charges, clearance, duties, taxes and onward delivery.

Which documents should I ask the Chinese factory for?

Ask for invoice and packing-list details, reports matching the ordered product, and origin information. We coordinate the shipment file and arrange a certificate of origin where your broker confirms it is needed.

Does your factory inspection replace the conformity certificate?

No. Our inspection checks the order against your agreed specification. Plan the official conformity process separately and have your broker confirm the certificate and arrival documents before dispatch.
