Check trader registration before placing the order
The starting gate is your Botswana registration position. BURS states that you must be registered for income tax to obtain a Trader Identification Number. Before paying a factory deposit, ask your own customs broker to confirm whether you need that number and whether your existing registration is ready for the proposed shipment.
Send the broker the product description, intended use, materials and model details. Ask them to check applicable permits, standards approval, certification and labelling with the relevant Botswana authorities, including the Botswana Bureau of Standards. Obtain their document checklist before approving production.
Name the seaport or border point in the quote

Ask your broker or the relevant authority to confirm acceptance of those reports before shipment.
Give your own broker responsibility for arrival clearance
BURS states that goods placed under a customs procedure should have an appropriate customs declaration. Appoint your own customs broker to confirm the final entry, classification, valuation, duties, taxes and supporting documents. Send the agreed document pack before arrival so discrepancies can be resolved while the factory is still available.
Ask the broker to coordinate customs queries, any examination and release arrangements with your forwarder. Agree who deals with the seaport, the border crossing and delivery within Botswana. Keep those instructions consistent with the delivery point and transport responsibilities in our quote.
