Buying a bioethanol fireplace from China

Before ordering, check the exact burner's fuel containment, extinguishing method and stability, then match its English instructions to your room and intended fuel. Never refill while it is burning or hot. Ask for model-specific test evidence and a sample review through Cambridge China Bridge.

Check the burner design behind the photographs

Ask for drawings and a sample showing the fuel reservoir, filling opening, burner attachment, flame screen and extinguishing mechanism. Establish whether the appliance uses a manually filled burner or a separate fuel-feed system. Ask how it prevents leakage, handles spilled fuel and allows the flame to be extinguished without reaching across it.

Request test evidence covering the complete fireplace with the proposed burner, glass, enclosure and accessories. Ask a competent testing specialist to assess fuel containment, abnormal operation and extinguishing performance. Use our test-report verification guide for document checks. A factory demonstration is useful, but it does not replace a safety assessment.

Check stability in the intended position

Warwickshire's home fire-safety guidance advises placing the burner on a stable, non-flammable surface. Examine the assembled sample for rocking, loose feet, insecure burner seating and poorly retained glass. Ask for stability evidence for the complete appliance, including its intended base or mounting arrangement.

For a wall-mounted model, ask for fixing details suited to your wall construction and have the mounting proposal assessed before purchase. For a tabletop or freestanding model, consider accidental knocks, trailing clothing, children and pets. Ask the supplier to identify the required clearances and any protective arrangements in the manual.

Read the fuel and operating instructions before paying

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service advises using only fuel specifically designed for bioethanol fires. Obtain the exact model's English manual before ordering. It should identify the compatible fuel specification, filling limit, lighting method, extinguishing procedure, cooling instructions and response to a spill. Avoid a purchase where these details remain unclear.

Ask someone unfamiliar with the sample to explain the operating sequence using the manual, without lighting it. Check that filling marks, controls and supplied tools match the illustrations. Our assembly and instruction checks explain this review. Warwickshire's guidance also says never to leave a burning bioethanol burner unattended.

Match the fireplace to your room

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service advises adequate ventilation whenever a bioethanol fire is used. Ask the manufacturer for the exact model's room suitability, minimum room size, ventilation arrangements, heat output and restrictions on location. Have those instructions reviewed against your actual room rather than accepting a claim that the fireplace suits any home.

Send photographs and details of the proposed position, nearby furnishings and available ventilation to the person assessing suitability. Ask about smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as part of that assessment. If you are comparing fuels, our wood-burning stove guide covers the separate stove and flue checks.

Resolve refilling precautions before shipment

London Fire Brigade says never to add fuel to a burning fire or refill a fuel container that is still hot. Treat extinguishing and cooling as separate steps. Ask the manufacturer how the user establishes that the burner is ready for refilling, and require clear instructions for filling, spilled fuel and restarting. Do not guess a cooling interval.

Before shipment, check that the supplied burner, filling marks, extinguishing tools and warning labels match the accepted sample and manual. Hold payment if the factory substitutes combustion components or leaves safety questions unresolved. Use our balance-payment checklist for wider checks. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate factory-side checks through its own staff in China.

Frequently asked questions

Can I refill a bioethanol fireplace straight after use?

No. London Fire Brigade advises against refilling a burning fire or a fuel container that is still hot. Follow the exact model's cooling and refilling instructions; do not invent a waiting time.

Can I use any alcohol in a bioethanol fireplace?

Use fuel specifically designed for bioethanol fires and matching the manufacturer's specification. Ask for that specification before buying the fireplace or fuel.

Does a bioethanol fireplace need ventilation?

Yes. UK fire-service guidance advises adequate ventilation. Check the exact model's room and ventilation instructions against your intended room before ordering.

What should I ask a Chinese fireplace factory for?

Request the exact burner specification, complete-appliance test evidence, stability details, English manual and a sample with its extinguishing tools. Resolve differences between the sample, documents and production goods before payment.
