Agree the position before choosing the rail
Ask an occupational therapist to assess the intended movements: entering the shower, crossing the bath edge, sitting down, standing up and transferring. Consider reach, balance, hand strength, painful joints and assistance. Mark the proposed height, angle and gripping area on a photograph or drawing measured from fixed features. Check clearance from taps, screens, doors and the user's mobility equipment.
Have the installer review that position before ordering, because the available structural support may affect the choice of rail. Resolve any conflict between a reachable position and secure fixing with the therapist. Record the agreed layout and rail details in your product specification. Avoid selecting a position from a catalogue photograph alone.
Check grip with the intended user
Ask the therapist to review a sample's diameter, shape, clearance from the wall and usable gripping length. Assess whether the user can close their hand around it comfortably without trapping fingers or scraping knuckles. Examine joints, ends and mounting covers for sharp edges. Discuss grip with wet or soapy hands under safely controlled conditions, without relying on an uninstalled sample for support.
