Prepare your identity document

Amazon asks for government-issued identification, such as a passport or driving licence. Prepare the document you intend to select in the application. Compare your full name, including middle names, and date of birth with the account entries before submitting.

Amazon requires valid, authentic and unaltered documents, showing the full document and its reverse where applicable. Check expiry and legibility yourself. If an account entry is wrong, correct the entry through the available account process; ask the document issuer to correct an inaccurate record.

Prepare sole trader business evidence

Amazon’s UK sole proprietor guidance calls for HMRC evidence of the business. Gather your HMRC correspondence, particularly any letter confirming your taxpayer reference or Self Assessment registration. Compare it with the document choices in your own verification request. Ask about acceptable alternatives if the requested document is unavailable.

Record your business type separately from your selling plan and shop name. Describe yourself accurately as a UK sole trader. If a field asks for incorporation documents or an unexplained registration number, ask Seller Support which route applies before submitting. For supplier paperwork, use our personal name or shop name guide.

Match address evidence to the requested address

Amazon’s registration guide names recent bank statements and utility bills as address evidence for business sellers. Read whether your request concerns your residential address or business address. Prepare evidence for the address actually requested, and check the name, postcode and address against the corresponding account fields.

Keep a comparison sheet showing your personal name, trading name, residential address, business address and delivery address in separate fields. Do not substitute a warehouse address simply because stock will go there. If you have moved or the bills are in someone else’s name, explain the situation to Seller Support and ask what evidence to provide.

Separate the payment card from the receiving account

Prepare the payment card and receiving bank details alongside your application. Check the cardholder details and billing address against the issuer’s records. For the receiving account, compare the account holder’s name, account number and sort code with the bank’s document. Keep this check separate from the card used to pay Amazon.

Download a bank statement ready for any verification request. Amazon’s bank-document guidance says to check that its issue date falls within the last 180 days before upload. Also copy the document conditions from your live request, including any provider restrictions. Inspect the original statement before sending it through the requested account channel.

Resolve verification requests before committing stock

Save the exact request, the document submitted, the submission date and Amazon’s response. For a rejection, compare the named issue with the account entry and original document. Ask Seller Support a specific question about the missing or unacceptable evidence. Keep the factory deposit on hold while account verification remains unresolved; an upload receipt is not confirmation of acceptance.

After resolving account requests, check the intended listing separately using our Amazon UK listing guide and selling approval guide. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China can coordinate supplier records and product photographs. Keep your identity documents, account access and verification correspondence under your control.

Frequently asked questions

What documents should a sole trader prepare for Amazon UK?

Prepare photo identification, HMRC business evidence, address proof, payment card details and receiving bank details. Use your account’s request to confirm which documents to upload.

Can I use my shop name for Amazon verification?

Keep your personal name and trading name separately recorded. Match each account field to its supporting document rather than replacing your personal identity with the shop name.

What if Amazon asks me for Companies House documents?

Tell Seller Support that you are a UK sole trader and ask which business type and document route apply. Resolve the request before submitting unrelated company records.

Should I buy China stock while verification is pending?

Hold the stock commitment until account verification requests are resolved. Then check the intended product’s listing and approval requirements separately before deciding to buy.
