12% duty on the relevant jogger lines

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 6104 covers women's or girls' knitted or crocheted garments, including trousers. The jogger-relevant lines shown here all carry 12% duty on goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no suspensions for these lines.

The tariff attaches cat and dog fur and seal-product import controls, with CITES import controls on the wool and other-material trouser lines. Imports and exports of cat and dog fur products are banned. Commercial seal-product imports require a seal catch certificate; confirm exemption eligibility with your broker. For CITES controls, confirm the species and required permits with APHA and your broker before ordering animal-derived materials.

Confirm the commodity code from the garment, knitted construction and fibre specification, especially for blends. Include duty in your import duty and VAT calculation. For the related men's product family, see men's knitted joggers. For skort styles, see women's knitted skorts sourcing.

Specify the fabric, rise and waistband

Specify adult women's sizing, fibre composition, fabric weight, loopback or brushed backing, stretch and recovery, colour and finish. Give the factory a graded measurement chart covering relaxed and stretched waist, hip, front and back rise, thigh, inside leg and cuff opening, with agreed tolerances. Approve a fit sample and a size set rather than relying on the factory's size names. For wide-leg trouser styles, see our women's knitted palazzo trousers sourcing guide.

Define waistband elastic, drawcord attachment, pocket depth, cuff rib, crotch reinforcement and print placement. Agree wash-test acceptance criteria and care instructions. For sale in Great Britain, fibre composition labelling is required; confirm detailed label requirements with Trading Standards, including durability, legibility, visibility, accessibility and secure attachment of sewn labels. Consumer joggers must also be safe under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 2,000 women's cotton knitted joggers; FOB and freight values are illustrative under 6104 62 00 00, invoiced at £18,000 free on board, with £1,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £19,200. Duty at 12% is £2,304. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £21,504, so it is £4,300.80. Import taxes total £6,604.80; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £2,304 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Fit and recovery: measure garments across sizes against the approved chart; stretch the waistband and cuffs, then check recovery, comfort and whether the elastic rolls inside its casing.

Fabric and washing: compare weight, backing and colour with the approved sample; wash production garments to check shrinkage, leg twisting, pilling and colour transfer.

Seams and pockets: check crotch and seat stitching, skipped stitches, pocket attachment, drawcord security and whether pocket bags protrude when worn.

Labels and packing: compare fibre labels with the fabric evidence and approved wording; check agreed care labels, size markings and carton contents. Use a written inspection brief.

What goes wrong

Joggers can fit at the waist but pull across the seat because the rise or hip grading is wrong. Waistband elastic can roll or remain stretched, cuffs can become loose, and brushed fabric can shed or pill. Washing can shorten the legs and twist side seams even when the unwashed sample looks correct.

Keep an approved sample for each fabric and colour, and compare production pieces before shipment and on arrival. Record measurements and wash results against the order. Resolve fabric substitutions, incorrect fibre labels and weak crotch seams before accepting the batch.
