Sourcing mosquito net fabric from China
Warp-knitted mosquito net fabric from China normally carries 8% UK duty; a narrowly specified polyester fabric has a 0% suspension. Consumer sales need fibre-composition labelling. Check insecticide treatment and intended use before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources warp-knitted mosquito net fabric.

Mosquito net fabric duty and classification
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 6005 covers warp-knitted fabrics other than those covered by headings 6001 to 6004. This guide concerns mosquito net fabric in rolls. The synthetic-fibre lines shown carry 8% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty and no attached import controls. The separate line 6005 35 00 00 covers fabrics meeting the chapter's subheading note, rather than every fabric described as mosquito netting.
A 0% suspension under 6005 36 00 00 applies only to the specified weft-inserted warp-knitted synthetic polyester yarn, with width from 1.5m to 1.65m and length from 8.000m to 16.000m. It excludes mixtures, preparations and products made up of different components containing these products. Do not claim the suspension merely because mosquito net fabric is polyester.
Confirm the commodity code using fibre composition, construction, colour treatment and any insecticide treatment. See the warp-knitted lace fabric guide for related heading coverage. The heading's other-fibre lines attach CITES and cat-and-dog-fur controls. CITES specimens require an import permit; ask your broker to confirm the species-specific requirements for goods from China. Imports and exports of cat or dog fur, and products made from it, are banned.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Synthetic mosquito net fabric meeting the chapter's subheading note | 6005 35 00 00 | 8% | None |
| Other synthetic mosquito net fabric, unbleached or bleached | 6005 36 00 00 | 8% | None |
| Other synthetic mosquito net fabric, dyed | 6005 37 00 00 | 8% | None |
| Other synthetic mosquito net fabric, of differently coloured yarns | 6005 38 00 00 | 8% | None |
| Other synthetic mosquito net fabric, printed | 6005 39 00 00 | 8% | None |
Specify the mesh and any insecticide treatment
Specify polyester or nylon, yarn construction, mesh opening size and shape, mass per unit area, usable width after finishing, roll length and colour. Agree how openings are measured with the fabric relaxed and under tension. Provide a retained sample and a cutting-and-sewing trial so the mill understands the required drape, edge behaviour and seam strength.
State whether the fabric is untreated or insecticide-treated. For treated fabric, request the active substance, treatment method, batch identification and evidence supporting the proposed claims. Ask HSE to confirm the regulatory route for the intended use. An article with a primary biocidal function is considered a biocidal product; a biocidal product must be authorised before it is made available on the market.
When fabric is sold by the metre to consumers, provide fibre composition and confirm the appropriate fibre names with Trading Standards. Check the mill's declared composition against a test report. For dyed or printed fabric intended for prolonged skin contact, check the applicable UK REACH azo-dye restriction. Arrange testing and certification against the actual fabric and intended use.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 8,000 metres of dyed polyester mosquito net fabric in rolls, illustrative only under 6005 37 00 00, invoiced at £12,000 free on board, with £1,200 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £13,200. Duty at 8% is £1,056. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £14,256, so it is £2,851.20. Import taxes total £3,907.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,056 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Mesh: compare opening size and uniformity with the approved sample, checking relaxed fabric and fabric under the agreed tension.
Roll dimensions: measure usable width, roll length and mass per unit area; record short rolls, joins and narrow sections.
Strength and finish: inspect for holes, broken yarns, needle lines and snagging; trial the intended seam and check dimensional change after the agreed washing procedure.
Identity and treatment: match roll labels to the fibre declaration, colour lot and treatment records; compare shade and inspect packaging for dampness. Record arrival findings against the inspection brief.

What goes wrong
Mesh can look acceptable on a tightly wound roll but open unevenly when stretched. Broken yarns create larger gaps, narrow fabric disrupts cutting plans, and weak seams split during assembly. Shade differences between rolls become visible when panels are joined. Compare bulk fabric with the retained sample before cutting.
An untreated sample may be followed by treated bulk fabric, or treatment documents may cover a different quality or batch. Appearance cannot establish insecticide performance or regulatory status. Keep treatment identity and intended claims in the purchase specification, and resolve discrepancies before releasing fabric for sale or manufacture.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on mosquito net fabric from China?
The selected synthetic warp-knitted fabric lines carry 8% duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty. A narrowly specified product under 6005 36 00 00 has a 0% suspension.
Does all insecticide-treated mosquito net fabric use 6005 35 00 00?
No. That line covers fabrics meeting the chapter's subheading note. Have your broker check the construction, composition and treatment details rather than relying on the supplier's product name.
Can I sell insecticide-treated mosquito net fabric in Great Britain?
Ask HSE to confirm the route for the actual fabric and intended use. If it is a biocidal product, authorisation is required before it is made available on the market.
How do I check mosquito net fabric on arrival?
Compare mesh openings, usable width, roll length, shade and seam performance with the approved sample. Inspect for holes and broken yarns, and match treatment documents to the delivered batch.
