Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 25 September 2026, caravan-type trailers for housing or camping, up to or over 1,600 kg, other trailers and semi-trailers, other non-propelled vehicles, and trailer axles and other parts carried 0% duty on goods from China, with no anti-dumping measure.
Trailers are bulky, so shipping them flat-packed or as kits for assembly in the UK can change the freight completely; the landed price should compare both, and the commodity code may change with the form in which they arrive.

Trailers need an approval route
The Road Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 2020 cover category O, trailers, alongside cars and goods vehicles, with GB type approval, small series approval and individual approval. Which route fits depends on the trailer's category and the volume, so settle it with the manufacturer before ordering, and ask whether the design already holds an approval that can be used for Great Britain.
UK roads drive on the left, so lighting, reflectors and the number plate position must suit UK use, and braked trailers need their braking system and coupling rated for the gross weight. Put the gross weight, axle rating, coupling and lighting into the product specification.
Welding, galvanising and axles
Trailer failures start in the chassis welds and the axles. Specify the steel, the weld procedure and hot-dip galvanising thickness, and ask for the axle and hub manufacturer and ratings; check welds, galvanising and the axle plates at inspection.
Camping trailers and caravans add water, gas and electrical systems, each with its own safety standards; decide which systems are fitted in China and which in the UK.
Parts and after-sales
Owners replace lights, bearings, tyres and couplings, so a trailer brand needs those parts in stock. Order spares with the first shipment and keep the axle and coupling part numbers on file.
