Zero duty for sanitary-ware fountain bodies

Heading 7324 covers sanitary ware and parts of iron or steel. For a non-powered stainless steel drinking fountain, the supplied other sanitary ware and parts line, 7324 90 00 90, is the starting point for classification. The table shows product variants sharing that candidate code, rather than separate tariff subdivisions.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, all supplied heading 7324 lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied data lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, steel measure, suspension or attached import control. This tariff position does not establish that a fountain's water fittings are suitable.

Give your broker the assembly drawing, materials and details of any cooling, pumping or treatment equipment before confirming the commodity code. This guide concerns non-powered fountains; do not assign the same code to an electrically cooled dispenser without checking. For the wider heading, see stainless steel sinks and baths.

Specify the fountain and its water path

Specify wall-mounted, pedestal or recessed construction, steel grade, thickness, finish, bowl shape, mounting arrangement and access for servicing. Supply drawings of inlet and waste connections. Agree the operating pressure, drinking jet position, valve action and drainage performance with the installer. List the materials of the spout, valve, tubing and seals separately from the outer stainless steel body.

Confirm applicable quality, standard and suitability requirements for the water-supply fittings with the local water company. Ask for supporting test reports covering the actual wetted components, and have the installer assess backflow protection and the proposed connection. Direct compliance questions to the local water company. Where the fountain is a consumer product, demonstrate compliance with relevant product safety regulations before sale.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order of 50 non-powered wall-mounted stainless steel drinking fountains under 7324 90 00 90, invoiced at £7,000 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £7,600. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,600, so it is £1,520. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Steel and fabrication: verify the agreed grade and thickness, inspect welds for pinholes and discolouration, and check exposed edges, mounting points and access panels.

Water operation: connect a sample under the agreed conditions, check jet direction and adjustment, valve shut-off, joint leaks and drainage without pooling or splash outside the bowl.

Connections and documents: trial-fit the intended inlet and waste fittings, compare wetted components with the approved parts list, and match supporting reports to the supplied model.

Arrival and packing: inspect bowls and pedestals for dents, check protective film and spout protection, and count fixings and service parts. Set these checks in the inspection brief.

What goes wrong

A sample can look correct while its valve, seals or internal tubing differ from the production batch. Other problems include a jet that misses the bowl, a valve that drips after release, waste connections that do not fit and welds that show rust staining. Approve the complete working assembly and record its component list before ordering.

A thin bowl or unsupported pedestal can deform during transport or installation. Require packing that protects the spout and mounting surfaces, compare arrival damage with dispatch photographs, and isolate leaking or damaged units for assessment before installation.
