Sourcing stadium seats from China
The stadium-seat lines shown carry 0% UK duty from China, with no additional trade remedy recorded. For grounds with a general safety certificate, the operator must tell the council before changing installations. Agree seat layout, fixings and testing before production. Cambridge China Bridge sources stadium seats.

Zero duty on the selected stadium-seat lines
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 29 September 2026, the selected stadium-seat and non-wooden seat-part lines under heading 9401 carried 0% duty for goods from China. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty, or tariff suspension, was recorded for these lines. Classification depends on the frame, upholstery and whether the shipment contains complete seats or parts.
The tariff attaches cat and dog fur controls: imports containing such fur are prohibited. It also attaches CITES and torture-goods import controls to the complete-seat lines. If materials contain CITES-listed specimens, obtain the applicable permits, including the corresponding Chinese documentation. Listed torture equipment is subject to an import ban; ask your customs broker to confirm whether the declared design falls within that control.
Send material details, assembly drawings and photographs to your broker to confirm the commodity code. See the banquet-chair guide for wider seating coverage and the duty and VAT guide for the calculation method.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upholstered stadium seats with metal frames | 9401 71 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Stadium seats with metal frames, not upholstered | 9401 79 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Other stadium seats, including moulded seats without metal or wooden frames | 9401 80 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Non-wooden stadium-seat parts | 9401 99 80 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the seat and its installed layout
Define fixed or tip-up construction, shell material, upholstery, seat width, mounting position, hole pattern and support arrangement. Supply drawings of the actual terrace or mounting rail. Agree drainage, colour matching, seat numbering, corrosion protection and resistance to sunlight. Approve an assembled sample on the intended support before releasing production.
Agree strength, durability and fire-performance testing with the venue and its advisers, with reports identifying the supplied shell, frame and upholstery. Where the ground has a general safety certificate, its holder must tell the council before changing the grounds or installations and follow the certificate conditions.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 400 metal-framed stadium seats, not upholstered under 9401 79 00 00, invoiced at £22,000 free on board, with £3,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £25,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £25,500, so it is £5,100. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Fit: assemble production seats on the agreed support; check hole alignment, brackets, fasteners and the installed seat layout.
Movement: operate tip-up seats repeatedly; check return action, hinge play, stops and accessible pinch points.
Materials: compare shell colour, finish, drainage openings, upholstery and coating with the approved sample and material schedule.
Arrival: check cracked shells, bent brackets, missing fittings and damaged numbering; retain batch identification and installation instructions.

What goes wrong
Mounting holes can match a factory jig but miss the venue’s rails. Tip-up mechanisms can bind after coating or fail to return when assembled. Other rejection points include sharp moulding edges, trapped rainwater, uneven colour and cracked shells around fixing points.
A report for a different resin, bracket or upholstery does not establish the performance of the ordered seat. Freeze the component schedule, approve substitutions before production and inspect assembled seats through quality inspection.
